Rhodesville, also known as Rhodes Mill, is an unincorporated community in Lauderdale County, in the U.S. state of Alabama.

History

Rhodesville is named for the Rhodes family, who were early settlers of the area from Newberry County, South Carolina. Spencer Rhodes operated a store, blacksmith shop, and mill in Rhodesville. [2] A post office was in operation under the name Rhodesville from 1889 to 1907. [3]

The Forks of Cypress United States historic place

The Forks of Cypress was a large forced-labor cotton farm and Greek Revival plantation house near Florence in Lauderdale County, Alabama. It was designed by architect William Nichols for James Jackson and his wife, Sally Moore Jackson. Construction was completed in 1830. It was the only Greek Revival house in Alabama with a two-story colonnade around the entire house, composed of 24 Ionic columns. The name was derived from the fact that Big Cypress Creek and Little Cypress Creek border the plantation and converge near the site of the main house. Although the main house was destroyed by fire in 1966 after being struck by lightning, the site was placed on the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage on April 14, 1992 and the National Register of Historic Places on October 10, 1997. The site is the property of the State of Alabama; a local board has oversight.

James Lauderdale (1768–1814) was an American militia officer who died during the War of 1812. A native of Botetourt County, Virginia, Lauderdale moved to Sumner County, Tennessee, as a young man. In 1813, he joined a unit of cavalry militia under General John Coffee. He later served under General Andrew Jackson and was wounded during the Battle of Talladega, during what was called the Creek War. He was then commissioned as a Lieutenant-Colonel of Volunteers, but died during the first Battle of New Orleans in December 1814.

Shoal Creek is a 64.7-mile-long (104.1 km) river from its east point or 63.6-mile-long (102.4 km) from the north point on the Little Shoal Creek north of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. The stream rises in northern Lawrence County, Tennessee, and enters the Tennessee River in Lauderdale County, Alabama, where its lower reaches are impounded in the backwater of Wilson Dam.
