Ricanau Mofo, also Ricanaumofo, [2] is a village of Ndyuka Maroons in the Moengo resort of the Marowijne District of Suriname. [3] The village can be accessed from the East-West Link via Moengo. [4] Ricanau Mofo is located on the Cottica River. [5]

Overview

Ricanau Mofo has a school and a health clinic. [3] The village is connected to the electricity grid, and in July 2019, construction started on supplying the village with clean drinking water. [2]

The economy of the village is based on agriculture with an emphasis on producing ginger, arrowleaf elephant ear (tayer), and bananas. [6] Tayer is the basis of the popular Suriname dish pom. [7] In 2019, a Farmers Field School was opened in the village. [8]

Moengo is a town in Suriname, located in the Marowijne district, between Paramaribo and the border town Albina on the Cottica River. Moengo is also a resort (municipality) in the district of Marowijne. Moengo was the capital of Marowijne District between 1932 and 1945. The current capital is Albina.

Meerzorg Resort in Commewijne District, Suriname

Meerzorg is a town and resort (municipality) in Suriname, located on the eastern bank of the Suriname River, directly opposite the capital Paramaribo. Its population at the 2012 census was 12,405. Since 2000 it has been connected to Paramaribo by the Jules Wijdenbosch Bridge, named after the former President Jules Wijdenbosch.

Ronnie Brunswijk Surinamese politician and former rebel (born 1961)

Ronnie Brunswijk is a Surinamese politician, businessman, footballer, convicted drug trafficker, former rebel leader, and the current Vice President of Suriname. Brunswijk served in the early 1980s as the personal bodyguard of Dési Bouterse, who overthrew the government in 1980 in a military coup. Brunswijk was discharged after asking for a raise, and denied back pay. In 1985, Brunswijk formed the Surinamese Liberation Army, better known as the Jungle Commando.

Chan Santokhi President of Suriname since 2020

Chandrikapersad "Chan" Santokhi is a Surinamese politician and former police officer who is the 9th president of Suriname, since 2020. After winning the 2020 elections, Santokhi was the sole nominee for president of Suriname. On 13 July, Santokhi was elected president by acclamation in an uncontested election. He was inaugurated on 16 July.

Gregory Rusland Surinamese politician (born 1959)

Gregory Allan Rusland is a Surinamese politician. He served as Minister for Natural Resources between 2005 and 2010. In 2012 he became leader of the National Party of Suriname. Rusland has been a member of the National Assembly since 2015.

The COVID-19 pandemic in Suriname was caused by Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. The virus was confirmed to have reached Suriname on 13 March 2020. The case was a person who travelled from the Netherlands the previous week. On 3 April 2020, one person died. On 3 May 2020, all nine cases had recovered. On 18 May, an eleventh case was identified.

Pamacca Resort in the Sipaliwini District of Suriname

Pamacca is a resort in Suriname, located in the Sipaliwini District. The population is estimated between 1,500 and 2,000 people. In 1983, the Sipaliwini District was created, and the eastern part became the resort of Tapanahony. The Pamacca resort is the northern part of Tapanahony, and mainly inhabited by the Paramaccan people, the border of the resorts is the island of Bofoo Tabiki in the Marowijne River.

Redi Doti is an indigenous village of Lokono and Kalina Amerindians in the resort of Carolina in the Para District in Suriname. The village is located near the site of Jodensavanne.

Witsanti is an indigenous village of Lokono and Kalina Amerindians in the resort of Zuid in the Para District in Suriname. The village is located on the John F. Kennedyweg near the Johan Adolf Pengel International Airport.

Powakka Village in Para District, Suriname

Powakka is an indigenous village of Lokono Amerindians in the resort of Oost in the Para District in Suriname. The village is located on the road to Carolina which connects to the Afobakaweg to Paramaribo.

Matta is an indigenous village of Lokono Amerindians in the resort of Zuid in the Para District in Suriname. The village can be accessed from a road which branches off the Southern East-West Link.

Asraf Peerkhan Stadion, formerly the Nickerie Voetbal Stadion, is a football stadium in Nieuw Nickerie, Nickerie, Suriname. The stadium has a capacity of 3,400 visitors. It is the home stadium of Nickerie Voetbal Bond (NVB), the football union for the Nickerie District. The stadium was constructed in 1933. It used to be called Nickerie Voetbal Stadion. On 17 December 2017, the members of the NVB voted to change the name to Asraf Peerkhan Stadion in honour of Asraf Peerkhan.

Suriname–Venezuela relations Bilateral relations

Diplomatic relations between Suriname and Venezuela were established in November 1975, shortly after the independence of Suriname. Suriname has an embassy in Caracas since 1976. Venezuela has an embassy in Paramaribo. As of 30 June 1978, there is no travel visa requirement between the two countries.
