Rice is an unincorporated community in Cloud County, Kansas, United States. [1]

Contents

History

In the 19th century, Rice was a station on the Central Branch Union Pacific Railroad, and the town's proximity to the larger trading center of Concordia inhibited its growth. [2]

A post office was opened in Rice in 1878, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1980. [3]

Education

The community is served by Concordia USD 333 public school district.

The Cloud County Thunderbirds are the sports teams of Cloud County Community College located in Concordia, Kansas, United States. They participate in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference. The Thunderbirds have won NJCAA national championships in women's basketball (2001) and men's soccer (2011). The school's track teams have finished in the top five nationally on several occasions.

Rev. Louis Marie Mollier was a priest of the Roman Catholic Church who served in the pioneer regions of Kansas, United States, from 1874 to his death in 1911. He was ordained 4 April 1873 by Rt. Rev. Louis M. Fink D.D. at Topeka, Kansas and took positions as a missionary priest of northwest Kansas and pastor of Saint Joseph for 36 years.
