Richard Stanley Leigh Jones (born 16 February 1940) was a member of the New South Wales Legislative Council from 13 March 1988 to 28 February 2003.
Born in Epsom,Surrey,England,educated at Downsend School and Epsom College, [1] he emigrated to Australia in 1965. He joined the Australia Party in 1971 and later the Australian Democrats,and was elected twice to the parliament as a Democrats candidate. He left the party in 1996 whilst still a sitting member and turned Independent,after endorsing Australian Labor Party candidates in the 1996 Federal election.
He was the first convenor of Friends of the Earth Australia and assisted in the founding of Greenpeace in Australia. [2] During his time in parliament,he voiced concern about environmental issues,including destruction of sand dunes at Myall Lakes.
Beyond his dedication to green politics and animal rights issues,he was also a vigorous proponent of alternative medicine;speaking several times in parliament in favour of homoeopathy and traditional Chinese medicine.

Founded in 1977 from a merger of the Australia Party and the New Liberal Movement,both of which were descended from Liberal Party dissenting splinter groups,it was Australia's largest minor party from its formation in 1977 through to 2004 and frequently held the balance of power in the Senate during that time.
Frederick John Nile is an Australian politician and ordained Christian minister. Nile was a member of the New South Wales Legislative Council from 1981-2023,except for a period in 2004. Nile was re-elected at the 1991,1999,2007,and 2015 state elections and served as the Assistant President of the Legislative Council between 2007 and 2019. The Unity Party was a small multiculturist party in Australia,formed in 1997 and primarily active in the state of New South Wales. Members of the New South Wales Legislative Council who served in the 51st Parliament were affected by the 1991 referendum. The Council consisted of 42 members,6 elected in 1988,15 elected in 1991 and 21 elected in 1995. The Minor Party Alliance (MPA) is a collaborative undertaking of small Australian political parties,created by Glenn Druery's "Independent Liaison" business,which assists in organising preference meetings and negotiating preference flows between minor parties in Australia. The Electoral district of Stanley Boroughs was an electorate of the New South Wales Legislative Council at a time when some of its members were elected and the balance were appointed by the Governor. It was a new electorate created in 1851 by the expansion of the Legislative Council to 54 members,with 18 to be appointed and 36 elected. The previous district of Counties of Gloucester,Macquarie,and Stanley was split into the districts of Gloucester &Macquarie,Stanley and Stanley Boroughs. The district included North Brisbane,South Brisbane,Kangaroo Point and Ipswich.
The Electoral district of Counties of Gloucester,Macquarie,and Stanley and from 1851,Gloucester and Macquarie,was an electorate of the partially elected New South Wales Legislative Council,created for the first elections for the Council in 1843. The counties of Gloucester and Macquarie were the settled coastal areas north of Northumberland County,while the County of Stanley was the area surrounding Brisbane,in what became part of Queensland after its separation in 1859. Polling took place at Raymond Terrace,Port Macquarie,Dungog,Stroud,Brisbane,Ipswich and Mr Rowley's residence on the Manning River. The County of Stanley was removed from the district with the expansion of the Council in 1851 and became the districts of County of Stanley and Stanley Boroughs.
