Rihand Nagar is a township, named after the Rihand River, a tributary of the Sone River. It is located near Bijpur and lies in the Sonebhadra district of Uttar Pradesh. This township is situated near the border of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh in India. This township has been developed by National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) under its Power Project Scheme, wherein it established a coal-based power station of 3000 MW capacity.
The township, which has been developed and is maintained by NTPC, is famous for ample greenery which makes it a good place to live. The township, though located in a remote area, has a very good secondary care 50-bedded hospital with all major specialities. The hospital, in addition to the NTPC employees, also caters to the people of surrounding villages in the radius of 50 km. and runs various national health programmes with help of central government. The township's schools include DAV Public School, St Joseph's School and Kendriya Vidyalay and the coaching centre includes SSG. The main market includes Bijpur.

It sources coal from Jayant and Bina mines and water from Rihand Reservoir. The states benefitting from this power plant are Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh and the Union Territories of Delhi, Chandigarh and Jammu and Kashmir. An investment worth ₹11,907 million (US$150 million) has already been cleared. It even gets international assistance from IDA.

In the year 1992, Uttar Pradesh State Electricity Board (U.P.S.E.B.) transferred Unchahar Thermal Power Station to NTPC Limited against payment overdue and later on renamed it to Feroze Gandhi Unchahar Thermal Power Plant by NTPC Limited.

The coal for the power plant is sourced from Nigahi mines, and the water is sourced from the discharge canal of Singrauli Super Thermal Power Station. The plant is estimated to have been the coal-fired power plant which emitted the second most carbon dioxide in 2018, after Bełchatów Power Station, at 33.9 million tons, and relative emissions are estimated at 1.485 kg per kWh.
Talcher Thermal Power station is located in Talcher sub-division of Angul district in the Indian state of Odisha Pin.759101. The existing plant was closed on 31 March 2021 with the plans to set up a new plant still in discussion phase. The power plant is one of the coal-based plants of NTPC. The coal for the power plant is sourced from Jagannath Mines of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited. Source of water for the plant is from Brahmani River. It has its own railway station and is well connected to three other important stations in close vicinity: Talcher Road, Angul and Talcher Stations. This power plant has been ranked among the best power plants in the country despite being the oldest plant in the state. It has consistently topped the charts in NTPC for the last four years and was also the nation's top power plant in 2015-16.

The coal for the power plant is sourced from North Karnpura Coal Fields. Source of water for the power plant is from Tanda Pump Canal on Saryu River.
