Main Regiments of the Military Area Commands (Indonesian : Resimen Induk Komando Daerah Militer, abbreviated Rindam) are Indonesian training centers and regimental depots serving newly recruited enlisted personnel of the 15 Military Area Commands of the Indonesian Army. These regiments are the regional command's home base for recruiting and training of personnel within their areas of responsibility.
Rindams are defined as a military educational institution under the direct control of the Military Area Command for enlisted and non-commissioned officers [1] [2] (other than Akmil, Seskoad, and Secapa) which have the main task of helping organize military training and education for all ranks of the RMC (Kodam) to produce soldiers who are professional, reliable, quality and have achieved basic military skills and tactical work for peace and wartime actions and are loved by the people not just of their communities but of the country at large. [3] [4] Rindam has several units in charge of conducting first, vocational and qualification education (Secata, Secaba, Dodiklatpur, Dodikjur, and Dodikbelanegara). Main Regiments are stationed in all 15 territorial commands of the Indonesian Army and are stationed in key Indonesian cities. [5]
Each Main Regiment is led by a Commander commonly called Danrindam (Commandant of the Kodam Main Regiment) who is of Colonel rank, and is organized into :
When the Armed Forces Reserve Component was officially activated in 2021, 6 regional Rindam regiments gained an additional reserve battalion for the training and education of reserve personnel of the Army under these battalions, which come from all sectors of society. [6] [7] Each reserve battalion has 550 personnel and are under the direct control of the Rindam for training purposes.
The Commandant is assisted by the Main Regiments Executive Officer (Kesrindam) who holds the billet of a Lieutenant Colonel.
The Rindam NCO Candidate Schools or Sekolah Calon Bintara Rindam are the training battalions for basic and advanced training of newly promoted non-commissioned officers of the army's RMCs. These battalions provide necessary training for personnel advancement into NCO status. Civilian direct entry NCO cadets also train under these units and then directly enlist into the Army as sergeants.

The Indonesian National Armed Forces are the military forces of the Republic of Indonesia. It consists of the Army (TNI-AD), Navy (TNI-AL), and Air Force (TNI-AU). The President of Indonesia is the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces. As of 2023, it comprises approximately 400,000 military personnel including the Indonesian Marine Corps, which is a branch of the Navy.
The Indonesian Army is the land branch of the Indonesian National Armed Forces. It has an estimated strength of 300,400 active personnel. The history of the Indonesian Army has its roots in 1945 when the Tentara Keamanan Rakyat (TKR) "People's Security Army" first emerged as a paramilitary and police corps.
The Indonesian Navy is the naval branch of the Indonesian National Armed Forces. It was founded on 10 September 1945 and has a role to patrol Indonesia's lengthy coastline, to enforce and patrol the territorial waters and Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of Indonesia, to protect Indonesia's maritime strategic interests, to protect the islands surrounding Indonesia, and to defend against seaborne threats.
The Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) uses a simplified ranking system for the three branches of Indonesian Army, Indonesian Navy and Indonesian Air Force. Most of the ranks are similar with differences for the rank titles of the high-ranking officers. Exception exists, however, in the ranks of the service members of the Indonesian Marine Corps. While Indonesian Marine Corps is a branch of the Navy, the rank titles of the Marine Corps are the same as those of the Army, but it still uses the Navy's style insignia.
The Jayakarta Jaya Military Regional Command ; abbreviated Kodam Jaya is the military district of the Indonesian Army which covers the Greater Jakarta area. Its role is to protect and defend the capital city area with other additional tasks, such as to support the local law enforcement and civil authorities.
Kodam XII/Tanjungpura, is an Indonesian Army Regional Military Command that covers West Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan province. Kodam Tanjungpura also oversees the defense of Indonesian border region with the Malaysian state of Sarawak.
Kodam V/Brawijaya is a military region command of the Indonesian Army, as the 5th Kodam, which oversees the entire East Java Province. It traces its history to the first formation of the East Java Division in 1948.
Kodam IX/Udayana is a military regional command of the Indonesian Army which is responsible for the Lesser Sunda Islands. It was established as part of the 1985 reorganisation of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and included East Timor until that province achieved independence in 1999.
Komando Daerah Militer XVII/Cenderawasih or Kodam XVII/Cenderawasih, is a military area command of the Indonesian Army, as the 17th Kodam, which is responsible for the defense of the provinces of Papua, South Papua, Central Papua and Highland Papua.
Komando Daerah Militer XIV/Hasanuddin is a military command area of the Military of Indonesia. It oversees the following provinces on Sulawesi island: South Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi and West Sulawesi.
Military Regional Command I/Bukit Barisan is an Indonesian Army Regional Military Command that covers the Sumatran provinces of North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Riau and Riau Islands. The command takes its name from the Barisan Mountains.
Iskandar Muda Military Region Command is a military territorial command of the Indonesian Army. It has been in active service as the local division for Aceh Province. Its emblem is a white elephant, after the war elephants that served in the namesake's army during his rule as Sultan of Aceh.
Kodam VI/Mulawarman is a military territorial command of the Indonesian Army. It has been in active service as the local division for the provinces of North Kalimantan, East Kalimantan and South Kalimantan.
The Indonesian Army and Marine Corps have several infantry brigades. These brigades normally consisted of about three infantry battalions. Currently the Army has 22 brigades and the Marine Corps has 4.

Its principal responsibility is the training of all service personnel of the Army to fulfill its primary responsibilities of national defense and civil-military cooperation in national development.
Komando Daerah Militer XVIII/Kasuari, is the Defense Regional Command in Southwest Papua, and West Papua Province, which was created in 2016 with the division of parts of Kodam XVII/Cenderawasih which is located in Jayapura, Papua Province.
The Reserve Component of the Indonesian National Armed Forces is the military reserve force of Indonesia, jointly managed under the General Headquarters of the Indonesian National Armed Forces and the Indonesian Ministry of Defense.
