The Indonesian Army and Marine Corps have several infantry brigades (Indonesian : Brigade Infanteri, shortened as Brigif). These brigades normally head about three infantry battalions. Currently the Army has 22 brigades and the Marine Corps has 4.

Infantry Brigades in Indonesia

There are two types of infantry brigades in Indonesia: ordinary brigades and "Raider"-qualified brigades. Raider-qualified brigades head Raider Battalions which are under the management of the Kodams and Kostrad.

Raider Infantry Brigades

Raider infantry brigades are responsible for the Raider Infantry Battalions.

Para Raider infantry brigades head Para Raider Battalions. These were formerly Lintas Udara (Linud) / Airborne brigades.

Marine Infantry Brigade

Training Regiment of the Infantry Forces Center (Resimen Pusat Kesenjataan Infanteri)

In addition to the brigades, there is also another regiment stationed at the Infantry Branch Center in the city of Bandung, West Java. The training regiment trains all officers, warrant officers, NCOs and enlisted personnel for basic skills intended for service in this branch. The Training Regiment falls under the responsibility of Commanding General Infantry (Komandan Pussenif), a general officer of lieutenant general rank, actual command of the regiment falls under the Director for Weapon Systems (Direktur Kesenjataan). The Infantry Branch Center was created on 9 May 1950 on the basis of both Republican infantry brigade depots and the educational institutions of the Royal Netherlands East Indies Army [16] under the Indonesian Army Doctrine, Education and Training Development Command.

The Indonesian Army has formed a large number of infantry battalions since it was formed from provisional militias during the Indonesian National Revolution against the Dutch colonial rule, 1945–1949. Today, the International Institute for Strategic Studies' Military Balance 2007 lists the Army with 2 brigades plus 60 other battalions in the KODAMs, or Military Regional Commands, and nine battalions in KOSTRAD, the Army Strategic Reserve Command. There are also around nine airborne battalions.

Kodam IX/Udayana is a military regional command of the Indonesian Army which is responsible for the Lesser Sunda Islands. It was established as part of the 1985 reorganisation of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and included East Timor until that province achieved independence in 1999.

The 3rd Kostrad Infantry Division abbreviated "Divif 3/Kostrad", is an army strategic command division of the Indonesian Army. The divisional commander is a two-star Major General. The division's headquarters are in Gowa. It is the newest of all the infantry divisions of the Kostrad.

The Satgas Pomad Para was the presidential bodyguard unit established by former Indonesian President Soeharto. This task force of military policemen and paratroopers replaced the Tjakrabirawa Regiment after the failed 1965 coup. This task force was liquidated in 1976 and is one of the predecessors of the present day Paspampres.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Feisal Tanjung</span> Indonesian general (1939–2013)

General Feisal Edno Tanjung, known as Feisal Tanjung, was an Indonesian Army general who was ABRI Commander and also served as Coordinating Minister for Politics and Security of the Republic of Indonesia. He had experience in combat, territorial and education. Much of his career was spent in special forces, Sandhi Yudha RPKAD Group (Kopassus) and later at the Kostrad 17th Airborne Infantry Brigade.

Airborne Raider Infantry Battalion 305th / Skull is an Indonesian Army unit. It is one of the three Battalions of the Raiders in the 17th Airborne Raider Infantry Brigade, 1st Kostrad Infantry Division. This Infantry Battalion was established on September 7, 1949 in Bintaran Kulon, Yogyakarta.

The ten raider battalions, which were inaugurated on December 22 2003, were formed by liquidating 8 regional military commands infantry battalions and 2 Kostrad infantry battalions. This infantry unit is based on the "Raid" battle tactic.
