Roam (often stylized as ROAM) were a British rock band from Eastbourne in England. [2] The band consists of vocalist Alex Costello, bass guitarist Matt Roskilly, lead guitarist and backing vocalist Alex Adam, rhythm guitarist Sam Veness, and drummer Miles Gill.

History

Formation, signing and early recordings (2012–15)

Roam formed in September 2012 in Eastbourne, England. [3] The group began performing in November 2012. [3] The band began producing original music in early 2012, and independently released two EPs, No Common Ground, which was released in 2012, and Head Down, which was released in 2013. [4] The group was signed to Hopeless Records in 2014 [5] and soon afterwards released the Viewpoint EP in 2015. [6]

Backbone and Great Heights & Nosedives (2016–18)

The band released its debut album, Backbone , on 22 January 2016, through Hopeless. [7] [8] Following the release of the band's debut album Backbone, the band supported Sum 41 during Kerrang! Tour 2016.

On 29 February, Roam announced that the band had parted with its drummer Charlie Pearson, stating that "We are extremely thankful for all his work and commitment to us over the past three years, and wish him the very best in the future." [9] The band also stated that in shows following Pearson's departure, drummer Miles Gill would serve as touring drummer at the band's performances. [10] [11] The band performed on every date of the 2016 Warped Tour. [12] [13] In August 2016, the group announced that Miles Gill would join the band full-time. [14]

On 21 August 2017, the band announced that their second album, Great Heights & Nosedives, would be released on 13 October. [15]

Smile Wide (2019–2022)

On 1 July 2019, the band announced their third album, Smile Wide would be released on 6 September and dropped the first single "I Don't Think I Live There Anymore". On 22 July they released a second single titled "Piranha".

Together with the band With Confidence, they toured Europe and the United Kingdom in September and October 2019.

On 21 June 2022, the band announced that they are splitting up and will play several farewell shows.

Musical style

Roam's music is pop punk. [16] AllMusic biographer Neil Yeung noted that the band "took cues from New Found Glory, Blink-182, Sum 41, and Simple Plan". [4]

Their second full-length album, Weird Kids, was released on February 18, 2014. The band announced a hiatus in February 2016. Neck Deep are a Welsh pop-punk band from Wrexham, Wales, formed in 2012. Founded after vocalist Ben Barlow met former lead guitarist Lloyd Roberts, the pair posted a song online under the name Neck Deep. The song soon gained attention online, resulting in the addition of rhythm guitarist Matt West, drummer Dani Washington/Abasi, and bassist Fil Thorpe-Evans. They released a pair of EPs, Rain in July (2012) and A History of Bad Decisions (2013), both recorded by Barlow's older brother, before signing with Hopeless in August 2013.

<i>Wishful Thinking</i> (Neck Deep album) 2014 studio album by Neck Deep

Wishful Thinking is the debut studio album by the Welsh pop punk band Neck Deep. Vocalist Ben Barlow met guitarist Lloyd Roberts when Roberts was working with Barlow's brother, Seb. Following the upload of a song under the artist name Neck Deep, the song gained attention. This attention resulted in the duo obtaining guitarist Matt West, drummer Dani Washington and bassist Fil Thorpe-Evans. The band released two EPs, Rain in July (2012) and A History of Bad Decisions. In March 2013 the band started recording material at Celestial Recordings in Wrexham, where they began recording guitar, bass and vocals. The group then moved to Outhouse Studio in Reading, where they recorded drums. Material was produced by Seb Barlow and the band. In mid-August, the group had signed to Hopeless, and by late August, they announced the album had been finished.

We Are Harlot, often shortened to just Harlot, is a hard rock supergroup organized by singer Danny Worsnop, of Asking Alexandria and Jeff George who was formerly Sebastian Bach's guitarist. Life's Not out to Get You is the second studio album by Welsh pop punk band Neck Deep. Following the success of their debut album, Wishful Thinking (2014), the majority of the band members quit their day jobs and vocalist Ben Barlow dropped out of university. Working with Jeremy McKinnon, Andrew Wade and Tom Denney, the band recorded their second album between December 2014 and January 2015. It is the final album featuring all five original members, with guitarist Lloyd Roberts departing shortly after the records release. Following recording the band immediately went on tour.

<i>No Closer to Heaven</i> 2015 studio album by the Wonder Years

No Closer to Heaven is the fifth studio album by American rock band the Wonder Years. Struggling with writer's block, vocalist Daniel Campbell spoke with several friends who were in bands for inspiration. No Closer to Heaven is a concept album, detailing the loss of a loved one. The album was recorded between March and April 2015. It was produced by Steve Evetts at The Omen Room. "Cardinals" was released as a single in June, followed by "Cigarettes & Saints" a month later. "I Don't Like Who I Was Then" was made available for streaming in August. "Thanks for the Ride" was made available for streaming in early September. No Closer to Heaven was released through Hopeless on September 4. The Target edition featured two additional tracks.

<i>The Peace and the Panic</i> 2017 studio album by Neck Deep

The Peace and the Panic is the third studio album by Welsh pop punk band Neck Deep. It is the first album to feature lead guitarist Sam Bowden, formally of the bands Blood Youth and Climates. It is the final record to feature bassist and backing vocalist Fil Thorpe-Evans. The group planned to work on material for their follow-up album by the end of the year, though were unable due to tour commitments. In June 2016, the band went on a two-week writing retreat in Wales, creating 40 song drafts in the process. At the end of the year, vocalist Ben Barlow said the group had around 30 demos and two completed songs. Following a support slot for A Day to Remember in early 2017, the band began recording The Peace and the Panic in March and April in Los Angeles, California. Mike Green produced the album with assistance from engineers Will McCoy and Colin Schwanke. Most of the album was mixed by Neal Avron, while Green mixed three of the songs.
