The 1980 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXII Olympiad and commonly known as Moscow 1980, were an international multi-sport event held from 19 July to 3 August 1980 in Moscow, Soviet Union, in present-day Russia. The games were the first to be staged in an Eastern Bloc country, as well as the first Olympic Games and only Summer Olympics to be held in a Slavic language-speaking country. They were also the only Summer Olympic Games to be held in a self-proclaimed communist country until the 2008 Summer Olympics held in China. These were the final Olympic Games under the IOC Presidency of Michael Morris, 3rd Baron Killanin before he was succeeded by Juan Antonio Samaranch, a Spaniard, shortly afterwards.
Chantelle Lee Newbery is an Australian former diver. She won a gold medal in diving at the 2004 Summer Olympics, and in 2006 became the 22nd athlete to be named in the Australian Institute of Sport Awards' "Best of the Best".

Matthew John Mitcham OAM is a retired Australian diver and trampolinist. As a diver, he was the 2008 Olympic champion in the 10m platform, and he is the 2nd highest single-dive score in Olympic history. This made him the first openly gay athlete to win an Olympic gold medal. He is also the first Australian male to win an Olympic gold medal in diving since Dick Eve at the 1924 Summer Olympics.
David Alasdair Boudia is an American diver. He won the gold medal in the 10 metre platform diving competition at the 2012 Summer Olympics and the bronze medal in the same event at the 2016 Summer Olympics. He also won a bronze medal with Nick McCrory in the men's synchronized 10 metre platform at the 2012 Summer Olympics and a silver medal in the same event with Steele Johnson at the 2016 Summer Olympics.
Lin Yue is a Chinese diver and a double Olympic gold medal winner. He competed for Team China in Diving at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing and won gold with Huo Liang in the Men's synchronized 10 metre platform. He also won gold in the same event at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio with Chen Aisen.

Steven Barnett is a male Australian diver, who won a bronze medal in the 2004 Summer Olympics with diving partner Robert Newbery. He was an Australian Institute of Sport scholarship holder. His mother is the 1974 Commonwealth Games bronze medallist diver Madeleine Barnett.
Grant Brits is a South African-born competition swimmer who represented Australia at various international championship events including at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing where he secured an Olympic bronze medal. Brits later worked in investment banking and finance, and as of 2018 ran the superannuation fund Superestate.
José Antonio Guerra Oliva is a male diver from Cuba. He represented his native country at four consecutive Summer Olympics, starting in 2000. Guerra won a gold and three silver medals at Pan American Games during his career. He also won 2 gold medals at Central American Games becoming the only Cuban male diver in history achieving this. The Cuban diver is the only diver in his country to win a gold medal at World University Games in 1999 Palma de Mallorca adding a silver and a bronze in Beijing in 2001. Being the only Cuban diver to lead the Diving World Ranking in the history, back in 2005. Winner of Forty (40) medals at the Diving Grand Prix and 130 medals total along his career, and is considered the best diver in Cuba of all time. His coach is Lino Socorro Aleman, from Matanzas, Cuba.
John David Gillanders is an American competition swimmer, Olympic medalist, and former world record-holder. He still competes in masters swimming in the 75–79 age group.
Bryan Nickson Lomas is a former Malaysian diver. Lomas was the youngest Malaysian athlete to qualify for 2004 Summer Olympics when he was 14. He became the country's first world junior diving champion after winning gold at the 3 m springboard event in the World Junior Championships held at Belem, Brazil in 2004. He trained under the coaching of Yang Zhuliang. Lomas is named after the footballer Bryan Robson by his father.
Craig Rogerson is an Australian former diver who competed in the 1988 Summer Olympics and in the 1992 Summer Olympics. After taking a few years off he returned in the Atlanta 1996 Summer Olympics, ranking 12th in the platform event. He is openly gay.
Evgeny Vladimirovich Kuznetsov is a Russian diver. At the diving portion of the 2011 World Aquatics Championships he won a bronze in the 3 m springboard, and was the part of the pair who won the silver medal in the 3 m synchronised springboard.
