Rocky Knob is a name used to describe eight different mountain peaks located in the North Georgia mountains that are scattered among four different Georgia counties.

Fannin County

  • A peak called Rocky Knob with an elevation of 2,594 feet (791 m) is located east of the southern end of Lake Blue Ridge on Rocky Knob Ridge. [1]

Rabun County

  • A 3,320-foot (1,010 m) peak called Rocky Knob is located northwest of Dillard, adjacent to Hog Mountain, elevation 3,120 feet (950 m). [3] Rocky Knob is about 0.3 miles (0.48 km) south of the North Carolina state line.

Towns County

  • A peak called Rocky Knob is located east of Young Harris on Ramey Mountain with an elevation of 3,320 feet (1,010 m). [5]
  • A 3,400-foot (1,000 m) peak called Rocky Knob is located less than one mile (1.6 km) south of the North Carolina state line on Spring Ridge. [6]

Union County

  • A peak called Rocky Knob with an elevation of 3,740 feet (1,140 m) is located south of Brasstown Bald, Georgia's highest peak. [7] It is found on Rocky Mountain, elevation 4,191 feet (1,277 m), directly south of the mountain's peak, on a spur or ridge that is oriented north-south. Rocky Knob is within the boundaries of the Brasstown Wilderness.
  • A peak called Rocky Knob is located on Locust Log Ridge west of Brasstown Bald within the boundaries of the Brasstown Wilderness and has an elevation of 3,663 feet (1,116 m). [8] Locust Log Ridge has two spurs emanating from the cliffs at Blue Bluff and Rocky Knob is on the southern spur. The Arkaquah Trail, which descends from Brasstown Bald to Track Rock, passes to the north of Rocky Knob and follows the northern spur of Locust Log Ridge.

It is located within the boundaries of the Chattahoochee National Forest. The Appalachian Trail passes below the knob to the east. This mountain is also known as Kelly Knob.

Hightower Bald

Hightower Bald, with an elevation of 4,568 feet (1,392 m) is the fourth-highest peak in the US state of Georgia. It is located in Towns County, Georgia at the North Carolina state line and is within the boundaries of the Southern Nantahala Wilderness of the Chattahoochee National Forest.

Standing Indian Mountain

Standing Indian Mountain, elevation 5,499 feet, is part of the North Carolina portion of the Southern Nantahala Wilderness within the boundaries of the Nantahala National Forest. The mountain lies along the Appalachian Trail and is the highest point along the Nantahala River.

Southern Nantahala Wilderness

The Southern Nantahala Wilderness was designated in 1984 and currently consists of 23,473 acres (94.99 km2). Approximately 11,770 acres (47.6 km2) are located in Georgia in the Chattahoochee National Forest and approximately 11,703 acres (47.36 km2) are located in North Carolina in the Nantahala National Forest. The Wilderness is managed by the United States Forest Service and is part of the National Wilderness Preservation System. The highest elevation in the Southern Nantahala Wilderness is the 5,499-foot peak of Standing Indian Mountain in North Carolina and the lowest elevation is approximately 2,400 feet (730 m). The Appalachian Trail passes through the Wilderness in both states.

Cowrock Mountain

Cowrock Mountain is a mountain that is located in Lumpkin and White counties in Georgia. The mountain forms a north/south ridge. Its northern peak, Cowrock, has an elevation of 3,852 feet (1,174 m) and its southern peak, Cowrock Flat, has an elevation of 3,502 feet (1,067 m). The boundary line between Lumpkin and White counties follows the ridge formed by Cowrock Mountain. The peak called Cowrock is the highest point in Lumpkin County, forms the northeast corner of the county. The Appalachian Trail also crosses Cowrock Mountain. The mountain is located within the Raven Cliffs Wilderness in the Chattahoochee National Forest.

Wolfpen Ridge

Wolfpen Ridge is a ridge in the Blue Ridge Mountains in U.S. state of Georgia that runs south to north along the boundary between Towns and Union counties. Brasstown Bald, the highest point in Georgia, is located at the northern end of the ridge. At the southern end of the ridge, there is an unnamed peak with an elevation of 4,561 feet, which makes it the fifth-highest point in Georgia.

Coosa Bald

Coosa Bald, with an elevation of 4,280 feet (1,300 m), is tied with Double Spring Knob as the tenth-highest peak in Georgia. It is located in Union County and is the third-highest mountain in the county, behind Blood Mountain and Slaughter Mountain. Coosa Bald is located in the Chattahoochee National Forest and its peak is crossed by the Duncan Ridge Trail, a trail that connects with the Benton MacKaye Trail and the Appalachian Trail.

Jacks Knob Trail

Jacks Knob Trail is a hiking trail that has been designated as a National Recreation Trail in Georgia, US. The trail is 4.5 miles (7.2 km) long and is located in the Chattahoochee National Forest in the Brasstown Ranger District. The trail is managed by the U.S. Forest Service.

Jacks Knob

Jacks Knob is a mountain located on the border of Towns County and Union County, Georgia, with a peak elevation of 3,813 feet. The Appalachian Trail crosses the southern flank of the mountain and Jacks Knob Trail ends here at an intersection with the Appalachian Trail. Locust Log Ridge

Locust Log Ridge refers to two different mountain ridges located within the State of Georgia.

Blue Bluff is a cliff located in Union County, Georgia at the approximate midpoint of Locust Log Ridge. The elevation above the bluff is 4,106 feet. An overlook is accessible via the Arkaquah Trail. Blue Bluff is located east of Brasstown Bald in the Brasstown Wilderness.

Roan Mountain (Roan Highlands)

Roan Mountain is the highpoint of the Unaka Range of the Southern Appalachian Mountains, located in the Southeastern United States. The mountain is clad in a dense stand of Southern Appalachian spruce-fir forest, and includes the world's largest natural rhododendron garden, and the longest stretch of grassy bald in the Appalachian range. The Cherokee National Forest and Pisgah National Forest converge atop the mountain, with Roan Mountain State Park located near its northern base. The Appalachian Trail traverses most of the Roan's crest. The Roan High Knob Shelter is the highest back-country shelter on the entire 2,174-mile (3,499 km) trail.

Waterrock Knob

Waterrock Knob is a mountain peak in the U.S. state of North Carolina. It is the highest peak in the Plott Balsams and is the 16th-highest mountain in the Eastern United States.

Grassy Mountain is a summit in Murray County, Georgia. At its highest point, the mountain has an elevation of 3,694 feet (1,126 m). It is the second tallest peak in Murray County, if using a 100 feet prominence rule, behind nearby Bald Mountain.

Spaniard Knob or Spaniards Knob are the names of two distinct mountains in the Towns County, Georgia.
