The Rodrigues People's Organisation (French : Organisation du Peuple Rodriguais, OPR) is a political party based on the island of Rodrigues, Mauritius. At the legislative elections of 11 September 2000, the party won two out of 70 seats (both the seats allocated to Rodrigues Island). [2]

In the 2005 elections, 3 July 2005, the party won two out of 70 seats. [3]

In the 2006 regional election, OPR won eight of 18 seats and subsequently lost government to Rodrigues Movement (MR).

In the 2012 Rodrigues election, OPR won 11 of 21 seats in the Assembly and took control of the island government from MR.

In the 2017 Rodrigues election, OPR won 10 of 17 seats. [4]

In the 2022 Rodrigues election OPR won eight of 17 seats. [5]

In the 2024 Mauritian general election, OPR secured two seats, winning the Rodrigues constituency. [6]

The MSM has won, either alone or as part of a coalition, six of the twelve general elections in Mauritius since independence (in 1983, 1987, 1991, 2000, 2014 and 2019). It draws most of its support from the country's Hindu majority.

Sir Anerood Jugnauth, GCSK, PV, was a Mauritian statesman, politician and barrister who served both as President and Prime Minister of Mauritius. He was Member of Parliament for Piton & Riviere Du Rempart. A central figure of Mauritian politics in the 1980s and 1990s, he was Leader of the Opposition from 1976 to 1982. He served four consecutive terms as prime minister from 1982 to 1995 and again from 2000 to 2003. He was then elected as President from 2003 to 2012. Following his party's victory in the 2014 general elections, he served his sixth and final term as prime minister, becoming the nation's longest serving prime minister with more than 18 years of tenure, overtaking Seewoosagur Ramgoolam, who held the office for 14 years.

Rodrigues is a 108 km2 (42 sq mi) autonomous outer island of the Republic of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean, about 560 km (350 mi) east of Mauritius. It is part of the Mascarene Islands, which include Mauritius and Réunion. Like Agaléga, Rodrigues is a constituent island of the Republic of Mauritius, under the Constitution of Mauritius and still remains, as explicitly defined by the same Constitution, part of the Sovereignty of Mauritius, together with the following islands: "Agalega, Tromelin, Cargados Carajos, Chagos Archipelago ... Diego Garcia and other islands included in the State of Mauritius".

Louis Serge Clair was the Chief Commissioner of Rodrigues from February 4, 2003 until 4 August 2006, and former minister of Rodrigues. Serge Clair, in the 1960s, abandoned priesthood to pursue a career in politics. He went to Australia to further his studies. After his studies, he returned to Rodrigues to engage actively in politics.

The Centre Party, previously the Country Party, was a minor Australian political party in the state of Tasmania. Initially formed in 1962 as a new Tasmanian branch of the Country Party of Australia after decades of inactivity in the state, it at first enjoyed no electoral success. In the run up to the 1969 election the party was joined by Kevin Lyons, a former Liberal turned independent member of the Assembly for Braddon, who renamed it the Centre Party and retained his seat at the election, securing the balance of power and serving as Deputy Premier in a coalition government until 1972. Upon the coalition's collapse the Centre Party faded away before being dissolved in 1975.

General elections were held in Mauritius on 5 May 2010. The coalition comprising Mauritius Labour Party under Navin Ramgoolam, the Militant Socialist Movement under Pravind Jugnauth and the Mauritian Social Democrat Party under Xavier-Luc Duval won a majority with 41 seats in the parliament. The Mauritian Militant Movement-led coalition under Paul Berenger finished second with 18 seats. The Mauritian Solidarity Front won one seat and the Rodrigues Movement won the two remaining seats. The elections were the ninth to be held since independence from the United Kingdom in 1968.

General elections were held in Mauritius on 10 December 2014 and resulted in a landslide victory for the Alliance Lepep coalition, which secured 47 of the elected seats under the leadership of Sir Anerood Jugnauth. The Labour Party–Mauritian Militant Movement (PTR–MMM) alliance led by Navin Ramgoolam got 13 seats.

Elections for the Rodrigues Regional Assembly were held on 12 February 2017. They were the fourth election of the island's regional parliament since Rodrigues obtained autonomous status within the Republic of Mauritius in 2001. The Rodrigues People's Organisation won 10 of the 17 seats.

John Kwadwo Gyampong is a Ghanaian politician and executive director. He served as a member of the 2nd parliament and was taken over by Rashid Bawa. He came back and served as an MP of the 4th parliament of the 4th republic of Ghana for the Akan Constituency in the Volta Region. He represented the National Democratic Congress.

The Alliance Liberation is a Rodrigues-based political alliance in Mauritius. It is composed of the Front Patriotique Rodriguais, Mouvement Militant Rodriguais, PMSD Rodrigues and Union du Peuple de Rodrigues.
