Roundhill is a Roanoke, Virginia neighborhood located in northwest Roanoke. It borders the neighborhoods of Airport on the north, Williamson Road on the south, Preston Park on the east, and Fairland, Melrose-Rugby and Washington Park on the west opposite Interstate 581. [1]

History

Annexed from Roanoke County in 1949, [2] much of the residential development within the neighborhood reflects that of typical suburban development following World War Two. [3] Today the neighborhood is the location of Huff Lane Elementary School, Roundhill Elementary School and Huff Lane Park. [1] Additionally, the area has developed into a regional shopping destination with the opening of Valley View Mall in 1985. [3]

Airport is a Roanoke, Virginia neighborhood located in north, central Roanoke surrounded roughly by Virginia State Route 118 to the south and by Interstate 581 to the west, centered on the Roanoke Regional Airport. It borders the neighborhoods of Miller Court/Arrowood on the west, Roundhill on the south and Roanoke County on the north and east.

Hollins is a Roanoke, Virginia neighborhood located in eastern Roanoke, immediately to the west of Tinker Creek. It borders the neighborhoods of Preston Park and Williamson Road on the west, Monterey, Eastgate and Wildwood on the east across Tinker Creek, and Fallon on the south. Its public education is at Northside High School. The extreme southeast corner of the neighborhood also is bounded by the town of Vinton. This neighborhood should not to be confused with the Census Designated Place called Hollins in Roanoke County.

Gainsboro is a Roanoke, Virginia neighborhood located in central Roanoke immediately north of Downtown, across the Norfolk Southern Railway right of way, between Interstate 581 and Orange Avenue. As of the 2000 U.S. Census, Gainsboro has a population of 967 residents.

The eastern and part of the northern border is shared with the town of Vinton. Today the neighborhood is bisected by Virginia State Route 24 and is bordered by Tinker Creek to the east.

Belmont is a Roanoke, Virginia neighborhood located in southeast Roanoke. It borders the neighborhoods of Hollins and Williamson Road on the north, Morningside and South Jefferson to the south, Downtown on the west and Fallon on the east. Today the neighborhood is bisected by Virginia State Route 24 and is bordered by Interstate 581 to the west.

Cherry Hill is a Roanoke, Virginia neighborhood located in far western Roanoke. It borders the neighborhoods of Ridgewood Park and Wilmont on the north, Greater Deyerle, Raleigh Court, Norwich and Hurt Park to the south and Shenandoah West on the east. The western border is shared with the city of Salem. Today the neighborhood is bisected by Virginia State Route 117 and is bordered by the Norfolk Southern Railway right of way on the south.

Ridgewood Park is a Roanoke, Virginia neighborhood located in far western Roanoke. It borders the neighborhoods of Edgewood-Summit Hills on the north, Cherry Hill on the south and Wilmont on the east. The western border is shared with the city of Salem.

Washington Park is a Roanoke, Virginia neighborhood located in central Roanoke, that initially developed in the 1920s as an early Roanoke suburb. It borders the neighborhoods of Roundhill on the north and Williamson Road on the north and east, Gainsboro and Harrison on the south and Melrose-Rugby on the west. Its northern and eastern boundary is concurrent with Interstate 581 and its southern boundary is concurrent with U.S. Route 460. As of the 2000 Census Harrison has a population of 1,254 residents with 531 households.

Melrose–Rugby is a Roanoke, Virginia neighborhood located in central Roanoke, that initially developed in the 1890s as an early Roanoke suburb. It borders the neighborhoods of Roundhill on the north, Washington Park on the east, Loudon-Melrose and Harrison on the south and Fairland and Villa Heights on the west. Its northern and eastern boundary is concurrent with Interstate 581 and its southern boundary is concurrent with U.S. Route 460.

Preston Park is a Roanoke, Virginia neighborhood located in northeast Roanoke. It borders the neighborhoods of Williamson Road on the south, Monterey and Hollins on the east, and Roundhill and the Airport on the west. The northern border is shared with Roanoke County. The name of the neighborhood reflects the fact that the large park of the same name is located within the neighborhood.

It borders the neighborhoods of Miller Court/Arrowood and Villa Heights on the west and Roundhill and Melrose-Rugby on the east. As of the 2000 U.S. Census, Fairland has a population of 1,492 residents.

Raleigh Court, Roanoke, Virginia Roanoke Neighborhood in Virginia, United States

Raleigh Court is a Roanoke, Virginia neighborhood located in southwest Roanoke along U.S. 11. It borders the neighborhoods of Greater Deyerle on the west, Wasena on the east, Cherry Hill, Mountain View and Norwich on the north and Franklin-Colonial and Grandin Court on the south. Today the neighborhood is accessed from the downtown areas via the Memorial Bridge across the Roanoke River. As of the 2000 U.S. Census, Raleigh Court has a population of 11,200 residents.

Hurt Park is a Roanoke, Virginia neighborhood located in central Roanoke between the Norfolk Southern railyard and the Roanoke River. It borders the neighborhoods of Cherry Hill on the west, West End on the east, Gilmer, Loudon-Melrose and Shenandoah West on the north across the Norfolk Southern railyard and Norwich across the Roanoke River and Mountain View on the south.
