Southern Hills is a neighborhood of the independent city of Roanoke, Virginia, United States. Located geographically as the city's southernmost neighborhood, Southern Hills was annexed from Roanoke County in 1976 and has seen significant residential and commercial development since the 1990s. [1] It borders the neighborhoods of the Franklin-Colonial and South Roanoke on the north, Garden City on the east and Roanoke County on the south and west. [2] Its western boundary runs concurrent with U.S. 220.

Hollins is a Roanoke, Virginia neighborhood located in eastern Roanoke, immediately to the west of Tinker Creek. It borders the neighborhoods of Preston Park and Williamson Road on the west, Monterey, Eastgate and Wildwood on the east across Tinker Creek, and Fallon on the south. Its public education is at Northside High School. The extreme southeast corner of the neighborhood also is bounded by the town of Vinton. This neighborhood should not to be confused with the Census Designated Place called Hollins in Roanoke County.
Gainsboro is a Roanoke, Virginia neighborhood located in central Roanoke immediately north of Downtown, across the Norfolk Southern Railway right of way, between Interstate 581 and Orange Avenue. It borders the neighborhoods of Harrison and Gilmer on the west, Washington Park on the north, Williamson Road on the east and Downtown Roanoke on the south. As of the 2000 U.S. Census, Gainsboro has a population of 967 residents.
Garden City is a Roanoke, Virginia neighborhood located far southeast Roanoke, abutting Mill Mountain. It borders the neighborhoods of Morningside and Riverdale on the north, and Mill Mountain and Southern Hills to the west. The eastern border is shared with Roanoke County. As of the 2000 U.S. Census, Norwich has a population of 2,981 residents.
Grandin Court is a Roanoke, Virginia, neighborhood located in southwest Roanoke. It borders the neighborhoods of Raleigh Court on the north and Franklin-Colonial to the south and east. The southwestern border is shared with Roanoke County. As of the 2000 U.S. Census, Grandin Court had a total of 1,144 occupied housing units.
Franklin-Colonial is a Roanoke, Virginia neighborhood located in southwest Roanoke that is bisected by the three primary arterials of Franklin Road, the Roy L. Webber Expressway and Colonial Avenue. It borders the neighborhoods of Wasena and South Jefferson to the north, Grandin Court and Raleigh Court to the west and South Roanoke to the east. The southern border is shared with Roanoke County. As of the 2000 U.S. Census, Franklin-Colonial had a total population of 2,860.

It borders the neighborhoods of Ridgewood Park and Wilmont on the north, Greater Deyerle, Raleigh Court, Norwich and Hurt Park to the south and Shenandoah West on the east. The western border is shared with the city of Salem. Today the neighborhood is bisected by Virginia State Route 117 and is bordered by the Norfolk Southern Railway right of way on the south.

Melrose–Rugby is a Roanoke, Virginia neighborhood located in central Roanoke, that initially developed in the 1890s as an early Roanoke suburb. It borders the neighborhoods of Roundhill on the north, Washington Park on the east, Loudon-Melrose and Harrison on the south and Fairland and Villa Heights on the west. Its northern and eastern boundary is concurrent with Interstate 581 and its southern boundary is concurrent with U.S. Route 460.
Raleigh Court is a Roanoke, Virginia neighborhood located in southwest Roanoke along U.S. 11. It borders the neighborhoods of Greater Deyerle on the west, Wasena on the east, Cherry Hill, Mountain View and Norwich on the north and Franklin-Colonial and Grandin Court on the south. Today the neighborhood is accessed from the downtown areas via the Memorial Bridge across the Roanoke River. As of the 2000 U.S. Census, Raleigh Court has a population of 11,200 residents.
Shenandoah West is a Roanoke, Virginia neighborhood located in west Roanoke south of U.S. 460. It borders the neighborhoods of South Washington Heights, Wilmont and Cherry Hill on the west, Loudon-Melrose on the east, Villa Heights on the north and Hurt Park on the south opposite the Norfolk Southern rail yard.

It borders the neighborhoods of Cherry Hill on the west, West End on the east, Gilmer, Loudon-Melrose and Shenandoah West on the north across the Norfolk Southern railyard and Norwich across the Roanoke River and Mountain View on the south.
Peachtree/Norwood is a Roanoke, Virginia neighborhood located in far northwest Roanoke. It borders the neighborhoods of Edgewood-Summit Hills on the south, Washington Heights and Westview Terrace on the east, Roanoke County on the north and the City of Salem on the west. The neighborhood is predominantly residential in character throughout its central area with commercial development along both its U.S. 460 and Virginia State Route 117 frontages. Its development patterns typical of those experienced for an American city during the mid-20th century with low-density housing.
Old Southwest is a neighborhood of the independent city of Roanoke, Virginia, United States. Located geographically near the center of the city, Old Southwest was annexed from Roanoke County in 1890 and developed as one of Roanoke's more affluent residential areas. Today the majority of the neighborhood falls within the Southwest Historic District listed on both the Virginia Landmarks Register and the National Register of Historic Places.
