Grandin Court is a Roanoke, Virginia, neighborhood located in southwest Roanoke. It borders the neighborhoods of Raleigh Court on the north and Franklin-Colonial to the south and east. The southwestern border is shared with Roanoke County. [1] As of the 2000 U.S. census, Grandin Court had a total of 1,144 occupied housing units. [2]
Grandin Court became part of Roanoke City by way of two separate annexations occurring in 1926 and 1943. [2] Bisected by U.S. Highway 221 (Brambleton Avenue) and bordered by U.S. Highway 11 (Grandin Road) on the north, most of the residential development occurred between 1920 and 1960. [3] [4] Residential development began in the northwest corner of the neighborhood and fanned out from that point, with various style represented, including but not limited to cottage, bungalow and American Foursquare. [2] With the establishment of The Coffee Pot restaurant in 1936, the commercial node of the neighborhood has developed and grown along Brambleton Avenue at the Roanoke County line. [5]
K-12 students residing in Grandin Court attend either Fishburn Park or Grandin Court Elementary School, Woodrow Wilson or James Madison Middle School, and Patrick Henry High School. [6] Grandin Court and Patrick Henry are located in the neighborhood as is the Roanoke Valley Governor's School for Science and Technology.
The neighborhood includes Fishburn, Shrine Hill, and Woodlawn Park, all connected by the Murray Run Greenway. [6] It boasts five tennis courts, a running track, and a nine-hole disc golf course. It is also home to the Grandin Court Recreation Center which exercise classes and an after-school youth program.
Wasena is a Roanoke, Virginia neighborhood located in south, central Roanoke bisected by U.S. Route 221, immediately to the south of the Roanoke River. It borders the neighborhoods of Raleigh Court on the west, Old Southwest on the north and east and Mountain View via the Wasena Bridge across the Roanoke River on the north, and Franklin-Colonial on the south. As of the 2000 U.S. Census, Wasena has a population of 1,633 residents.
Norwich is a Roanoke, Virginia neighborhood located in west central Roanoke, immediately south of the Roanoke River. It borders the neighborhoods of Mountain View on the east, and Raleigh Court on the south. The northern and western reaches of the neighborhood are bound by the Roanoke River without crossings into both Hurt Park and Cherry Hill across the river. As of the 2000 U.S. Census, Norwich has a population of 652 residents.
Gainsboro is a Roanoke, Virginia neighborhood located in central Roanoke immediately north of Downtown, across the Norfolk Southern Railway right of way, between Interstate 581 and Orange Avenue. It borders the neighborhoods of Harrison and Gilmer on the west, Washington Park on the north, Williamson Road on the east and Downtown Roanoke on the south. Franklin-Colonial is a Roanoke, Virginia neighborhood located in southwest Roanoke that is bisected by the three primary arterials of Franklin Road, the Roy L. Webber Expressway and Colonial Avenue. It borders the neighborhoods of Wasena and South Jefferson to the north, Grandin Court and Raleigh Court to the west and South Roanoke to the east. The southern border is shared with Roanoke County. As of the 2000 U.S. Census, Franklin-Colonial had a total population of 2,860.

Its northern and eastern boundary is concurrent with Interstate 581 and its southern boundary is concurrent with U.S. Route 460.

Completed in 1936, The Coffee Pot is an example of novelty architecture as its distinctive feature is that of a stucco coffee pot structure that is situated on the roof of the building. Today, this remains as the only active roadhouse located within the Roanoke Valley.
