Roy Robert Mitchell (born 1 January 1955) is a Jamaican born long jumper who competed for Great Britain at the 1976 Summer Olympics. [1]

Biography

Mitchell became the British long jump champion after winning the British AAA Championships title at the 1976 AAA Championships. [2] [3]

At the 1976 Olympics Games in Montreal, he represented Great Britain in the logn jump event. [1] His personal best jump was 8.08 m (26 ft 6 in). [4]

Mitchell won his second AAA title at the 1978 AAA Championships [5] and then shortly afterwards he represented England and won a gold medal in the long jump event, at the 1978 Commonwealth Games in Edmonton, Canada. [6] [7]

Mitchell was also considered British AAA champion in both 1979 and 1981 because he was the highest placed British athlete in the event. [8] Additionally, he won the 1980 UK Athletics Championships title.
