Ruiz is a municipality and the municipal seat of the same located in the north of the Mexican state of Nayarit.
The name was given to honor General Mariano Ruiz (1846–1932), soldier of the Mexican Revolution and last political leader of the territory of Tepic, who lived in and supplied the settlement until 1910.
The population of the municipality, according to the census of 1995, was 25, 591. The municipal seat itself had 12,266 inhabitants in 1995.
There is a relatively large indigenous population that lives in the mountains. According to the 1995 census it consisted of 1,866 people, or 9.8% of the population. The most numerous ethnic groups are the Cora and the Huichol. These Native Americans can often be seen in the main population center selling their traditional crafts and stocking up on provisions.
The total area of the municipality was 900 square kilometers. Ruiz has boundaries in the north with the municipalities of Rosamorada and El Nayar; in the south with the municipalities of El Nayar and Santiago Ixcuintla; in the west with the municipalities of Santiago Ixcuintla, Tuxpan and Rosamorada, and in the east with the municipality of El Nayar. The area of the municipality extends from the western lowlands to the foothills of the Sierra Madre Occidental. About 70% of its surface is made up of rugged lands. The municipal seat is located on the coastal plain at an elevation of 30 meters above sea level. It is here where the agricultural lands are found, especially near the San Pedro River. In the mountains peaks reach as high as 1,640 meters, the case of Los Coquitos.
The climate is mild rainy and subhumid, with the rains falling from June to September. The area is free of frost and moderate winds are of little intensity.
The economy is based on agriculture with the main crops being: coffee, maize, sorghum, beans, pineapple, watermelon, tobacco, and chile. There is also significant cattle raising with around 20,000 head of cattle.
Nayarit, officially the Estado Libre y Soberano de Nayarit, is one of the 31 states that, along with Mexico City, comprise the Federal Entities of Mexico. It is divided in 20 municipalities and its capital city is Tepic.

Santiago Tianguistenco, often simply called Santiago by locals, is a city located in Mexico State about thirty km south of the state capital of Toluca. It is the municipal seat for the municipality of Tianguistenco. It is located in the southwest part of the Valley of Toluca at the edge of the Ajusco mountain range that separates it from Mexico City. The name Tianguistenco (Tyanguistengko) is from Nahuatl and means “at the edge of the tianguis,” which is a traditional Aztec market. The section of the city where the industrial park is still bears this name. Historically, the area was known as having one of the richest and best-stocked markets in the Toluca Valley. Today, it is still home to a large permanent municipal market as well as a weekly tianguis that covers much of the historic center.
El Nayar is a municipality in the Mexican state of Nayarit. The population was 30,551 in 2005 in a total area of 5,100 km². The municipal seat of Jesús María had a population of 1,520 in 2005. El Nayar is the home of the Huichol, Cora, and the Tepehuán Indians.
Tecuala is both a municipality and a town in the Mexican state of Nayarit, on the Pacific coast. The population of the municipality was 42,237 in a total area of 1,137 km² (2000) while the population of the town and municipal seat was 14,584 (2000). One of the longest beaches in the world, Playa Novillero, is located here.
The Cora are an indigenous ethnic group of North Western Mexico which live in the municipality El Nayar, Rosamorada, Ruiz, Tepic, in the Mexican state of Nayarit, Mezquital in Durango and in a few settlements in the neighboring state of Jalisco. They call themselves náayerite, whence the name of the present day Mexican state of Nayarit. They reside within a series of comunidades indígenas and ejidos. The 2000 Mexican census reported that there were 24,390 people who were members of Cora-speaking households, these being defined as households where at least one parent or elder claims to speak the Cora language. Of these 24 thousand, 67 percent (16,357) were reported to speak Cora, 17 percent were nonspeakers, and the remaining 16 percent were unspecified with regard to their language.
La Yesca is a municipality and the municipal seat of the same in the Mexican state of Nayarit. The population of the municipality was 12,025 (2005). The population of the town and municipal seat was 356 inhabitants in 2005. The population density was 7 inhabitants per square kilometer, one of the lowest in the state.
Huajicori is both a municipality and the municipal seat of the same in the Mexican state of Nayarit. The population of the municipality was 10,294 in 2000 in a total area of 2,603.5 km2. Its area makes up almost 10% of the state. The population of the town was 2,201 (2005).
San Pedro Lagunillas is both a municipality and the municipal seat of the same in the Mexican state of Nayarit. The population of the municipality was 7,155 (2005) in a total area of 520 square kilometers. The population of the town and municipal seat was 3,630 (2005). The population has been declining since 1980 when it was 8,308 inhabitants.
Rosamorada is a municipality of the state of Nayarit in Mexico. It is located in the middle of the state. The area of the municipality is 2,073 km² and the population was 32, 217 in 2005, showing a significant decrease from 1980 when it was 34,695. Most of the population is still rural with the major settlements being Rosamorada with 3,393 inhabitants; San Vicente with 4,556; Los Pericos with 2,441; Chilapa with 2,277; Pimientillo with 1,824 and El Tamarindo with 1,544.
Ixtlán del Río is both a municipality and the municipal seat in the Mexican state of Nayarit. In 2018, the population of the municipality was 33,289, with 35,180 residents living in the municipal seat. The total area of the municipality is 581.4 km².
Santiago de Ixcuintla is a municipality and a municipal seat in the western Mexican state of Nayarit. The municipal population was 84,314 inhabitants with the municipal seat having 18,269. The area of the municipality was 1,831.92 square kilometers. It is located at 21º48'40" N and 105º12'23" W.
Tuxpan, is both a municipality and a municipal seat in the Mexican state of Nayarit. It is located in the west of the state and has boundaries with the municipalities of Rosamorada in the north, Santiago Ixcuintla in the south and west, and Ruiz in the east.
Santa María del Oro is a municipality and municipal seat in the Mexican state of Nayarit. It is located in the south of the state and has boundaries with the municipalities of El Nayar, Tepic, Ahuacatlán, Jala, San Pedro Lagunillas, La Yesca, and Xalisco. The population was 21,688 in 2005, with the municipal seat of the same name having 3,314 inhabitants. The total area was 912.90 km².

San Andrés Tuxtla is a city and municipality in the south of the Mexican state of Veracruz. The city is the largest in the Los Tuxtlas region. It was founded after an eruption of the San Martín Volcano pushed people into this valley during the early colonial period. Since the 19th century, the area has been the center of Mexico's production of fine tobacco, mostly used in the making of cigars.
Taxco de Alarcón is one of the 81 municipalities of Guerrero, in south-western Mexico. It covers an area of 650.7 km² and includes 121 communities. The municipal seat lies at Taxco de Alarcón. The population was 105,586 at the time of the 2020 census.
