Sadhu Singh is an Indian academic and politician from Punjab. He was a member of parliament from Faridkot from 2014 to 2019. He is part of the Aam Aadmi Party and is a member of its national executive committee. [1]
Sadhu Singh was born in the village of Manuke Gill in Moga District in 1941. He joined the irrigation department as a draughtsman in Chandigarh in 1961. He continued his studies and was awarded a M.A. degree in English from Punjab University,Chandigarh in 1970. He also attained degree of Budhiman (Proficiency in Punjabi) from Panjab University in Chandhigarh. He also taught the subject of English to paramedical classes at Baba Farid University of Health Sciences,Faridkot.
He was selected by Punjab Public Service Commission as a college lecturer in English in 1970. He served at Government Brijindra College Faridkot from 1971 to 1999 as Lecturer in English and worked for College Lecturer Association (G.C.L.A.) Punjab. After retirement in 1999,he worked as Principal in K. K. Marwah Girls College,Faridkot.
Singh has authored two books of Punjabi poetry,Pyasi Mehak and Saleeb Te Sargam and has been associated with numerous literary and cultural Sabhas and Kendri Punjabi Lekhak Sabha.[ citation needed ]
Singh contested the 2014 Indian general election on an Aam Aadmi Party ticket from Faridkot constituency and defeated Shiromani Akali Dal's Paramjit Kaur Gulshan by 172,516 votes. [2]
Amarinder Singh,known publicly as Captain Amarinder Singh,is an Indian politician,military historian,former royal and former veteran who served as the 15th Chief Minister of Punjab. A former Member of the Legislative Assembly from Patiala,he was also the president of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee,the state division of the Indian National Congress. He has also previously served as the Chief Minister of Punjab from 2002 to 2007. His father was the last Maharaja of the princely state of Patiala. He has also served in the Indian Army from 1963 to 1966. In 1980,he won a seat in the Lok Sabha for the first time. As of February 2021,Singh also serves as the chairman of the Punjab Urdu Academy. Captain Singh resigned as the Chief Minister of Punjab on 18 September 2021.

Politics in reorganised present-day Punjab is dominated by mainly three parties –Aam Aadmi Party,Indian National Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal). Since 1967,a full-time Chief Minister of Punjab has been predominantly from Jatt Sikh community despite its 21 percent state population. Only exception was Giani Zail Singh,the full-time Chief minister of Punjab from 17 March 1972 to 30 April 1977 belonging to Ramgarhia community that has population of 6 percent and is a part of significant OBC community having population of 31.3 percent in the state. However Scheduled Castes (Dalit) community never had full five year Chief Minister from community nor proper representation in Government,despite having 32 percent population in the state. Other prominent party is Bahujan Samaj Party especially in Doaba region founded by Kanshi Ram of Rupnagar district. In 1992 State elections,BSP won 9 seats Vidhan Sabha elections and was principle opposition party. Also BSP won 3 lok sabha seats from Punjab in 1996 general elections,only Garhshanker seat in 1997 Punjab Legislative Assembly election and Nawan Shahr seat in 2022 Punjab Legislative Assembly election. Communist parties too had some influence in the Malwa area.

He is a former leader of the Aam Aadmi Party and was the Leader of Opposition in Punjab Assembly. Although there are many parties with the description Akali Dal,generally the party that is recognised as "Shiromani Akali Dal" by the Election Commission of India is the one led by Sukhbir Singh Badal. It controls Sikh religious bodies,the Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee and the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee and it is the largest and most influential Sikh political party worldwide. The basic philosophy of Akali Dal was to give a political voice to Sikh issues and it believed that religion and politics go hand in hand but after the 1996 Moga Conference the party adopted a moderate Punjabi secular agenda. On 26 September 2020,they left the NDA over the farms bill.

He served as Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab from 2009 to 2017. He is the son of Parkash Singh Badal,who has served several times as Chief Minister of Punjab.
A Legislative Assembly election was held in the Indian state of Punjab on 4 February 2017 to elect the 117 members of the Punjab Legislative Assembly. The counting of votes was done on 11 March 2017. The ruling pre-election coalition was the alliance comprising the political parties Shiromani Akali Dal and Bharatiya Janata Party and led by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal. The voter turnout for the Punjab Assembly election was 77.2% The Indian National Congress led by former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh defeated the ruling alliance and the newcomer Aam Aadmi Party.
