Sam Perry [1] was an American track and field athlete who held the world record for the 60 y sprint and who was twice United States champion at that event.

Track career

Perry ran for the Fordham University track team.

In 1965, Perry, equalled the world record of 5.9 s for 60 yards of Bob Hayes whilst running for his college track team at the Millrose Games. [1] [2]

In 1963 and 1965, Perry became national indoor champion at 60 y. [3] [4]

Accolades and awards

In 1977, Perry was inducted into the hall of fame of the Fordham University Rams. [3]

In 1995, Perry's old high school, Passaic High School, named their new track after him [5]

Personal life

Perry was also a graduate of Columbia Law School. [1]

In later life, Perry became an attorney and a city councilman in Passaic, New Jersey. [1] [5]

Robert Lee "Bullet Bob" Hayes was an Olympic gold medalist sprinter who then became an American football wide receiver in the National Football League for the Dallas Cowboys. An American track and field athlete, he was a two-sport stand-out in college in both track and football at Florida A&M University. He has one of the top 100 meter times by NFL players. The Millrose Games is an annual indoor athletics meet held each February in New York City. They started taking place at the Armory in Washington Heights in 2012, after having taken place in Madison Square Garden from 1914 to 2011. The games were started when employees of the New York City branch of Wanamaker's department store formed the Millrose Track Club to hold a meet. The featured event is the Wanamaker Mile.

Fordham Rams

The Fordham Rams are the varsity sports teams for Fordham University. Their colors are maroon and white. The Fordham Rams are members of NCAA Division I and compete in the Atlantic 10 Conference for all sports except football. In football, the Rams play in the Patriot League of NCAA Division 1 Football Championship Subdivision. The University also supports a number of club sports, and a significant intramural sports program. Indiana State Sycamores

The Indiana State Sycamores are the NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletic teams of Indiana State University. Since the 1977–78 academic year, Indiana State has been a member of the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC). The Indiana State football team has competed in the second-tier Division I FCS since the 1982 season, and has been a member of the Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC) since it was spun off from the Gateway Collegiate Athletic Conference (Gateway) when the latter league merged into the MVC in 1992. Past conference memberships include the Indiana College Athletic League (1895–1922), the Indiana Intercollegiate Conference (1922–1950), the Indiana Collegiate Conference (1950–1968) and the Midwestern Conference (1970–1972). The women's teams were Gateway members from the league's 1982 founding until its absorption by the MVC. In 1986, a year after the Gateway took on football as its only men's sport, the Sycamores football team joined that conference.

Robert Tomlinson "Bob" Wheeler, III was an American athlete in track & field who specialized in the mile. Born in Timonium, Maryland, he went to Dulaney High School in Baltimore County, Maryland, and attended Duke University. He represented the United States at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, where he ran the 1500 metres. He is still the Duke record holder at the mile (indoor), the 1500 metres (outdoor), and the 1000 metres (indoor), records he ran between 1971 and 1973.

Matthew Centrowitz Jr. American middle-distance runner

Matthew Centrowitz Jr. is an American middle-distance runner who specializes in the 1500 meters. He became a prominent figure in U.S. running when he won a bronze medal at the 2011 World Championships in Athletics. A seasoned competitor with a potent finishing kick, he competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the 1500 meters—where he finished 4th by only 0.04 seconds. At the 2013 World Championships in Athletics, Centrowitz improved on his bronze medal performance with a silver in the same event. At the 2016 World Indoor Championships, he won his first major international championship in the 1500 meters. He then won the gold medal in the 1500 meters at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro with the slowest winning time since 1932, becoming the first U.S. runner to win the event since 1908.

Greg Rice (athlete) American long-distance runner

Joseph Gregory Rice was an American long-distance runner. He was five times American champion in the 5000 m, set world indoor best times at two miles and three miles, and in 1940 received the Sullivan Award as the outstanding American amateur athlete. Like most athletes of his generation his athletics career was curtailed by the outbreak of World War II.

Mark Hollis is an American track and field athlete who competes in the pole vault. His personal best for the event is 5.83 m, set in 2014. He finished third at the 2014 IAAF Continental Cup.

Karissa Schweizer American runner

Karissa Schweizer is an American middle- and long-distance runner. In early 2020, she set the American Record for the indoor 3000-meter run with a time of 8:25.70. Representing the University of Missouri, she won the 2016 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships and holds five other NCAA individual championship titles in track and field. Schweizer is the current American collegiate record-holder for the indoor 3000-meter run with a time of 8:41.60. She has been labeled the most decorated athlete in University of Missouri history.

Elinor Purrier American runner

Elinor Purrier St. PierrenéeElinor Purrier is an American track and field athlete who specializes in middle-distance running and long-distance running. She represented the United States at the 2019 World Athletics Championships, competing in the women's 5000 meters. On February 8, 2020, she set the American record for the indoor mile, with a time of 4:16.85 at the Millrose Games. On February 13, 2021, she ran a time of 9:10.28 to break the American indoor 2-mile record. The time was also lower than the outdoor 2-mile record.
