The Battle of Utoy Creek was fought August 4–7, 1864, during the Atlanta Campaign of the American Civil War. Maj. Gen. William T. Sherman's Union armies had partially encircled the city of Atlanta, Georgia, which was being held by Confederate forces under the command of General John Bell Hood. Sherman had at this point adopted a strategy of attacking the railroad lines into Atlanta, hoping to cut off his enemies' supplies. This was the third direct attack on Confederate positions during the campaign and the effect of success would have ended the siege and won Atlanta on 6 August 1864.

Cascade Heights

Cascade Heights is an affluent neighborhood in southwest Atlanta. It is bisected by Cascade Road, which was known as the Sandtown Road in the nineteenth century. The road follows the path of the ancient Sandtown Trail which ran from Stone Mountain to the Creek village of Sandtown on the Chattahoochee and from there on into Alabama. Ironically, the name lived on even after the Indians were expelled in the 1830s.

The route passes through the towns of Camden and Wyoming along the way. From the Maryland border to Camden, it is a two-lane undivided road that passes through rural areas. DE 10 is a four-lane divided highway called Lebanon Road between U.S. Route 13 (US 13) in Camden and DE 1. DE 10 has one alternate route, DE 10 Alternate, which provides an alternate alignment between Willow Grove and Highland Acres, passing through Woodside and Rising Sun.

Sandtown-Winchester is a neighborhood in West Baltimore, Maryland. Known locally as Sandtown, the community's name was derived from the trails of sand that dropped from wagons leaving town after filling up at the local sand and gravel quarry back in the days of horse-drawn wagons. It is located North of West Lafayette Street, West of North Fremont Avenue, South of West North Avenue, and East of North Monroe Street, covering an area of 72 square blocks, patrolled by the Baltimore Police Department's Western District. The community is 98.5% black.

Mosher is a neighborhood in the western part of Baltimore, Maryland. Its boundaries are the north side of Edmondson Avenue, the west side of Braddish Avenue, the east side of Poplar Grove, and the south side of Riggs Avenue. The neighborhood lies in the vicinity of Walbrook Junction, Coppin State University, Sandtown-Winchester, and Edmondson Village. Mosher is one of several neighborhoods that resisted the development of the "Road to Nowhere", now designated as US 40, along the Franklin Avenue corridor. The area was historically segregated, and largely occupied by European Americans, but transitioned during the early 1950s to become a predominantly African American area.

Sandtown is an unincorporated community located within Southampton Township in Burlington County, New Jersey, United States. The settlement is located at the modern-day intersection of Sandtown Road and New Freedom Road. Little Creek runs to the west of Sandtown and forms the border between Southampton and Medford townships. A small grouping of homes is located along the two aforementioned roads in Sandtown while the remainder of the Southampton side of the creek consists of farmland. Route 70 is the closest major road near Sandtown.
