Rodolfo Guzmán Huerta, known professionally as El Santo or in English The Saint, was a Mexican luchador enmascarado, actor and folk hero. He is one of the most famous and iconic Mexican luchadores, and has been referred to as one of "the greatest legends in Mexican sports". His wrestling career spanned nearly five decades, during which he became a folk hero and a symbol of justice for the common man through his appearances in lucha films and comic books telling fictionalized stories of El Santo fighting for justice. He starred or co-starred in at least 54 movies between 1958 and 1982.
Lucha libre is the term for the style of professional wrestling originating in Mexico. Since its introduction to Mexico in the early 20th century, it has developed into a unique form of the genre, characterized by colorful masks, rapid sequences of holds and maneuvers, and "high-flying" maneuvers, some of which have been adopted in the United States, Japan, and elsewhere. The wearing of masks has developed special significance, and matches are sometimes contested in which the loser must permanently remove his mask, which is a wager with a high degree of weight attached. Tag team wrestling is especially prevalent in lucha libre, particularly matches with three-member teams, called trios.
Adolfo Margarito Tapia Ibarra is a Mexican luchador enmascarado, who currently performs as L. A. Park for Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide (AAA) in Mexico and various other independent promotions in Mexico and the United States. He is best known throughout the world as La Parka, especially from his many years in the American World Championship Wrestling promotion. He has worked for every major and multiple minor wrestling promotion in Mexico, as well as participating on multiple wrestling tours in Japan. He is a three-time world heavyweight champion, having held the IWC World Heavyweight, IWC World Hardcore, and IWL World Heavyweight championships all once. He is also a two-time world tag team champion, having held the MLW World Tag Team Championship and the CMLL World Tag Team Championship each once.
Jorge Ernesto Guzmán Rodríguez is a Mexican luchador enmascarado, or masked professional wrestler and political activist, best known under the ring name, El Hijo del Santo. Guzmán is the youngest child, out of eleven, of Rodolfo Guzmán Huerta, better known as El Santo, a professional wrestler, film actor, and Mexican folk hero. Jorge Guzmán's son made his debut under the name "Santo Jr.", the third-generation Guzmán to use the name "Santo". Jorge Guzmán's uncles, Miguel "Black" Guzmán, Jesús Guzmán and Jimmy Guzmán were also wrestlers. Axxel, Jorge Guzmán's nephew, originally wrestled as "El Nieto del Santo" but Jorge Guzmán owned the rights to the "Santo" name and objected. Guzmán has also followed in his father's footsteps, as he has starred in several lucha films.
Héctor Solano Segura was a Mexican professional wrestler, better known by the ring name Héctor Garza. During his career he worked for various major Mexican professional wrestling promotions such as Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL), Perros del Mal Producciones and, at the time of death, AAA. Garza also worked for several major promotions such as World Championship Wrestling (WCW), the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) and Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) in the United States.
Pedro Aguayo Ramírez was a Mexican luchador or professional wrestler and promoter who achieved fame in lucha libre as Perro Aguayo Jr. or El Hijo del Perro Aguayo. He was the real-life son of lucha libre legend Perro Aguayo and not a storyline "Junior". Aguayo was best known as the leader of the Los Perros del Mal stable, which he started in Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) in mid-2004. The stable became a significant draw in Mexican professional wrestling, peaking during Aguayo's storyline rivalries with Místico and Héctor Garza. In October 2008, Aguayo left CMLL to start his own independent professional wrestling promotion Perros del Mal Producciones, built around members of his Los Perros del Mal stable. In June 2010, Aguayo returned to AAA after a seven-year absence to start an invasion storyline involving his stable.
Fuerza Guerrera is a Mexican Luchador enmascarado who made his debut in 1978. In his career Guerrera has worked for every major wrestling organization in Mexico including Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL), AAA, Universal Wrestling Association (UWA), World Wrestling Association (WWA) and International Wrestling Revolution Group (IWRG). Throughout his career Fuerza Guerrera has held many titles for CMLL, AAA and IWRG. Fuerza Guerrera's real name is not a matter of public record, as is often the case with masked wrestlers in Mexico where their private lives are kept a secret from the wrestling fans. Only his paternal surname is known, as his son Eduardo Aníbal González Hernández' name is a matter of public record making Fuerza Guerrera's paternal surname "González" as well. Eduardo González is better known as luchador Juventud Guerrera. Fuerza Guerrera is Spanish for "Warrior Strength", not to be mistaken for the surname Guerrero.
When Worlds Collide was a professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event that took place on November 6, 1994, at the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena in Los Angeles, California. It was scripted and produced by the Mexican lucha libre company Asistencia Asesoría y Administración (AAA), now known as Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide, and their American partner, International Wrestling Council (IWC). The show was produced by the technical staff of World Championship Wrestling (WCW). WCW Executive Vice-President Eric Bischoff had helped AAA secure the show to be broadcast by American pay-per-view providers, marking the first time a non-US-based wrestling promotion was shown live on US PPV television. The show was broadcast in both English and Spanish. Chris Cruise and Mike Tenay called the action in English, while Arturo Rivera and Andrés Maroñas handled the Spanish announcing. This event also marked Tenay's first commentating role in professional wrestling.
Octagon is a Mexican luchador enmascarado better known as Octagón. He is best known for working for Asistencia Asesoría y Administración (AAA), having worked for the company since it was founded in 1992. In 2011 he was inducted into the promotion's Hall of Fame. Octagón formed a tag team with El Hijo Del Santo to take on Los Gringos Locos in a double mask versus hair match on the first pay-per-view put on by a Mexican wrestling promotion to air in the United States. Over the years the Octagón gimmick has spawned a Mascot called Octagoncito and an "Evil clone" known as Pentagón. In 2014, Escalera quit AAA.
Roberto González Cruz was a Mexican professional wrestler who wrestled under the name El Solitario. During his career he held both the NWA World Light Heavyweight Championship and the NWA World Middleweight Championship. After achieving stardom in Mexico's oldest promotion, Empresa Mexicana de Lucha Libre, Gonzalez Cruz joined the breakaway promotion, the Universal Wrestling Association, where he held four more world championships in the early 1980s.
Alejandro Cruz Ortiz was a Mexican Luchador, known worldwide as Black Shadow. Cruz's mask vs. mask match against El Santo in 1952 is generally considered one of the most important matches in the history of Lucha Libre. Cruz often teamed with Blue Demon, working as a tag team called "Los Hermanos Shadow", even though the two were not related. He was nicknamed El Hombre de Goma, translated as The Rubber Man, due to his elasticity and flexibility in the ring.
Juan Manuel Rodriguez Carillo was a Mexican luchador, best known by his ring name Bestia Salvaje, who competed in Mexican and international promotions during the 1980s and 1990s, most notably with Emilio Charles Jr. and Scorpio Jr. as part of the stable Los Talibanes. A second-generation wrestler, he was the son of Espectro II, the brother of Corazón Salvaje and the brother-in-law of Charrito de Oro.
Eugenio Torres Villarreal is a Mexican luchador, or professional wrestler, television host, singer and comedian best known under his ring name Konan Big. Torres competes primarily in the Monterrey-based Federación Internacional de Lucha Libre (FILL)) and in the Independent circuit in northern Mexico. He is known mainly in Monterrey City for wrestling against various local celebrities. He also appears occasionally on the variety show Es Show on Multimedios Televisión.
Triplemanía XVII was a professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event produced by the AAA promotion, which took place on June 13, 2009 at the Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City, Mexico. It was the year an event was held under the Triplemanía chronology. Triplemanía XVII was the third Triplemanía event to take place in Mexico City, and the second to take place in Palacio de los Deportes, site of the previous Triplemanía XVI as well. The show drew close to 16.000 spectators, down from the previous years 19.000 spectators in the same venue. The Triplemanía set reduced the capacity of the arena compared to the previous year but it was not a complete sell out.
Jorge Luis Alcantar Bolly, is a Mexican second-generation luchador. He is currently signed to WWE, where he performs on the SmackDown brand under the ring name Santos Escobar. He is a member of Legado Del Fantasma and the Latino World Order.
Arturo Beristain is a retired Mexican professional wrestler, or Luchador in Spanish, who works as a wrestling trainer at the Mexican professional wrestling promotion Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre's (CMLL) gym in Mexico City, Mexico. Beristain is best known for working under two different ring names, Talismán and El Hijo del Gladiador; both personas started out as enmascarados, or masked, and Beristain lost both masks in Luchas de Apuestas. He lost the Talismán mask to Atlantis in 1984 and the Hijo del Gladiador mask to Rencor Latino in 2000. As Talismán, Beristain won the Mexican National Welterweight Championship twice, the Mexican National Middleweight Championship and the Mexican National Lightweight Championship. As el Hijo del Gladiador he has won the CMLL World Trios Championship with Gran Markus, Jr. and Dr. Wagner Jr. and the IWRG Intercontinental Middleweight Championship. When Beristain lost the "Hijo del Gladiador" he was announced as "Arturo Beristain Ramírez" to further the storyline that he was actually the son of wrestler "El Gladiador", but his last name is not actually Ramírez.
Mascarita Dorada, is the ring name of a Mexican Luchador enmascarado, or masked professional wrestler, who works in the Mini-Estrella division, comparable to midget wrestling. He is also known for his tenure with WWE under the ring name El Torito.
José Ángel Bocanegra González is a Mexican luchador, or masked professional wrestler, best known under the ring name Oficial 911. As Oficial 911 he is part of a group called Los Oficiales that has worked for International Wrestling Revolution Group (IWRG) since 2007. The team held the record for the longest-reigning Distrito Federal Trios Champions and are the most successful holders of the IWRG Intercontinental Trios Championship, holding it longer than any other trios team and having defended it more times than any previous champions have. Bocanegra previously wrestled as Comando Mega in IWRG as well.
Juan Carlos Gonzales, better known under the ring name El Hijo del Diablo, is a Mexican luchador, or professional wrestler currently working on the Mexican Independent circuit and has regularly worked for International Wrestling Revolution Group (IWRG) portraying a rudo wrestling character. He is a founding member of the IWRG group Los Gringos VIP.
The 2010 Festival de las Máscaras was a major lucha libre event produced and scripted by the Mexican International Wrestling Revolution Group (IWRG) professional wrestling promotion on July 23, 2010. The show was held at the Centro Banamex Convention center at the Hipódromo de las Américas race course, part of the 2010 Lucha Libre Expo
