Uttam Kumar, widely known as Mahanayak, was an Indian film actor, producer, director, screenwriter, composer, and playback singer who predominantly worked in Bengali cinema. His career spanned three decades, from the late 1940s until his death in 1980. Kumar is regarded as one of the greatest actors in the history of Indian cinema and also the most popular and successful film star in Bengal.

Amanush is a 1974 Indian bilingual action masala film simultaneously shot in Bengali and Hindi languages, produced and directed by Shakti Samanta, under his banner Shakti Films. Based on Shaktipada Rajguru's novel Naya Basat which he wrote plotting on Sundarbans, the film stars Uttam Kumar in the titular role, alongside Sharmila Tagore, Utpal Dutt, Anil Chatterjee, Manik Dutta and Asit Sen in supporting roles. The soundtrack and background score was composed by Shyamal Mitra, while the screenplay and additional dialogues were written by Prabhat Roy, who was also the assistant director of the film. The film's plot line is simple enough, but it's the complexity of human emotions depicted that makes it a classic. It is a flood that restores faith in boundless human spirit. 'Amanush' that means half human, and half beast to marvel scope of the his trionic capabilities.
Chowringhee is a 1968 Indian Bengali drama film by Pinaki Bhushan Mukherjee, starring Uttam Kumar and Subhendu Chatterjee who played the lead role and Biswajit Chatterjee, Supriya Devi and Anjana Bhowmick in supporting role. The music of the film composed by Ashima Bhattachariya who also produced this film. The film is based on a Bengal novel of the same name by Shankar.
Agni Pariksha is a 1954 Indian Bengali-language romantic drama film directed by Agradoot and starring Uttam Kumar and Suchitra Sen. The film was adapted from Asha Purna Devi's novel of the same name. The film become overwhelming success from both critically and commercially. The movie was remade in Hindi in 1967 as Chhoti Si Mulaqat also starring Uttam Kumar. Before that the movie was simultaneously made into a 1959 Telugu - Tamil bilingual titled Mangalya Balam in Telugu and Manjal Mahimai in Tamil.
Srijit Mukherji is an Indian film director and screenwriter who predominantly works in Bengali cinema. His regular collaboration with veteran actor Prosenjit Chatterjee brought him into the limelight. His first feature film Autograph (2010), was a critical and commercial success, where he had written the script with Chatterjee in mind. His fifth film, Jaatishwar, won four national awards at India's 61st National Film Awards (2014). He won the National Film Award for Best Direction and Best Original Screenplay for his sixth film, Chotushkone, at India's 62nd National Film Awards. His eighth film, Rajkahini had been remade into a Hindi film titled, Begum Jaan, starring Vidya Balan in 2017. His 2018 release Ek Je Chhilo Raja won the 'Best Bengali Film' Award at India's 66th National Film Awards. His 2019 film Gumnaami won him the Best Bengali Film and Best Adapted Screenplay Awards at the 67th National Film Awards.
Autograph is a 2010 Indian Bengali drama film by debutant director Srijit Mukherji. The movie is a tribute to Satyajit Ray's 1966 film Nayak and yesteryear Bengali actor Uttam Kumar, who portrayed the title role in the film. This was the first collaboration between Srijit Mukherjee and Prosenjit Chatterjee. The movie is being remade in Malayalam.
Gauriprasanna Majumdar was an Indian lyricist and writer known for his work in Indian cinema and Bangladeshi cinema. He also won National Film Awards of Bangladesh for Sesh Porjonto (1969).
Tarun Kumar Chatterjee was an Indian actor who is known for his exclusive work in Bengali cinema. In most of his films, his role as a supporting actor gave him huge appreciation from critics and audience.
Raja Ramesh is a 1977 Indian Telugu-language thriller film directed and co-written by V. Madhusudhana Rao. The film stars Akkineni Nageswara Rao and Vanisri. The music was composed by K. V. Mahadevan. It is a remake of the Bengali film Sanyasi Raja (1975), which was based on the Bhawal case. The film was released on 21 July 1977.
Bon Palashir Padabali is a 1973 Indian Bengali language romance drama film co-written and directed by Uttam Kumar. It is an adaptation of a 1960 same name novel by Ramapada Chowdhury. It was released on 9 February 1973, under the banner of Uttam foundation Shilpi Sangsad.
Basu Poribar is a 1952 Bengali film directed by Nirmal Dey under the banner of M.P Productions. Uttam Kumar, Sabitri Chatterjee, Supriya Devi, Bhanu Banerjee and Jiben Bose play lead roles. The film was released on 11 April 1952. It was the debut film of legendary Bengali actress Supriya Devi. It was the first successful film starring Uttam Kumar it's become superhit at the box office. After seven back to back flop films he was called 'flop master general', and he considered to leave the film industry. The success of this film saved his career. The film was remade in Hindi as Hum Hindustani in 1960.
Ek Je Chhilo Raja is an Indian Bengali drama film directed by Srijit Mukherji, under the banner of SVF Entertainment Pvt Ltd, starring Jisshu Sengupta in the title role of Maharaja Mahendra Kumar Chowdhury as well as the Bhawal sanyasi. The film also stars Jaya Ahsan, Aparna Sen, Anirban Bhattacharya, Anjan Dutt, Rudranil Ghosh and Sreenanda Shankar. The movie was released during Durga puja 2018. Most of the film was shot at Kathgola in Murshidabad. The film won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Bengali at India's 66th National Film Awards.

Sabyasachi is a 1977 Bengali language period political action film directed by Pijush Bose. Based on the novel Pather Dabi written by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay, produced by Asim Sarkar under the banner of Usha Films. It stars Uttam Kumar in the titular role, alongside Supriya Devi, Bikash Roy, Kiran Lahiri and Tarun Kumar in lead roles. It marks the second film of Uttam Kumar, in which he also composed the soundtrack after Kal Tumi Aleya (1966).
Stree is a 1972 Indian Bengali language romantic action film directed by Salil Dutta. Based on the novel of Bimal Mitra as same title and the era of the plot showing during the Second World War. Produced by Baby June Productions marking their second venture, it stars Uttam Kumar, Soumitra Chatterjee and Arati Bhattacharya in lead roles. The soundtrack of the film was composed by Nachiketa Ghosh, with the lyrics penned by Gauriprasanna Mazumder and Pulak Bandyopadhyay.
