Savita Singh is an Indian cinematographer and film director. She gained recognition for her work as the cinematographer of the short film Sonsi, which won the National Film Award for Best Cinematography [1] and was selected as India's entry for the Oscars in the short film category. [2]
Savita Singh was born and raised in Hisar, Haryana, in a family of farmers. She was the first female graduate from her village, and her passion for visual storytelling led her to pursue a career in cinema. With the support of her father, who worked in a bank, Savita pursued her passion for filmmaking after a stint as a journalist in Delhi. She went on to study at the Film and Television Institute of India, [3] where she collaborated with Amit Dutta, a senior, on the experimental film Kramasha. This collaboration proved to be a turning point in her career, as the film received widespread acclaim and earned her a National Film Award. [4]
After completing her studies, Savita moved to Mumbai and began her career as a cinematographer. She worked on notable projects such as Phoonk directed by Ram Gopal Varma and 404 directed by Prawaal Raman. [5] [6] In 2019, Savita Singh made her directorial debut with the short film Sonsi. [7] The film, which she also wrote, delves into a mystical and poetic narrative, following the journey of an eight-year-old girl named Nadi as she ventures into a deep and mysterious woods in search of her dream-etched shadow bird. The film won the National Film Award for Best Cinematography and was chosen as India's entry for the Oscars in the short film category. [8] [4]

The 67th National Film Awards were announced at a press meet on 22 March 2021 to honour the best Indian films certified in India between 1 January and 31 December 2019. The awards ceremony, at which the Directorate of Film Festivals presents its annual National Film Awards to honour the best in Indian cinema, was originally slated to be held on 3 May 2020. It was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and was presented on 25 October 2021.

The music, background score and the soundtrack for both languages is composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar.
On 14 June 2020, Indian actor Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his room in Bandra, Mumbai, aged 34. The cause of death was ruled to have been murder, with official postmortem reports confirming Rajput died of asphyxia due to hanging. The Mumbai Police launched an investigation into the death, which had become a subject of widespread speculation and rumours.

The film is directed by Savita Singh and inspired by stories from her childhood, and the skewed gender roles in the film industry. The movie's name is derived from Vinod Kumar Shukla's Hindi literary work titled "Deewar Mein Ek Khidki Rehti Thi", which received the Sahitya Akademi Award for the best Hindi literature in 1999.
