Uttar Pradesh is a state in northern India. With roughly 200 million inhabitants, it is the most populous state in India as well as the most populous country subdivision in the world. It was created on 1 April 1937 as the United Provinces of Agra and Oudh during British rule, and was renamed Uttar Pradesh in 1950, giving it the acronym UP. The state is divided into 18 divisions and 75 districts, with the capital being Lucknow and financial & industrial capital being Kanpur. On 9 November 2000, a new state, Uttaranchal, was carved from the state's Himalayan hill region. The two major rivers of the state, the Ganges and Yamuna, join at Triveni Sangam in Allahabad and flow further east as Ganges. Other prominent rivers are Gomti and Saryu. The forest cover in the state is 6.09% of the state's geographical area.
BIMARU is an acronym formed from the first letters of the names of the Indian states of Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh. It was coined by Ashish Bose in the mid-1980s. BIMARU has a resemblance to a Hindi word bīmār (बीमार) meaning "sick". This was used to refer to the poor economic conditions within those states. Several studies, including those by the UN, showed that the performance of the BIMARU states were dragging down the GDP growth rate of India. During the period of 2008-2011, some of these states started to develop faster than some of the major states and the concept of BIMARU was being considered to be outdated. However in the recent years, this concept has reemerged due to faltering growth rates of the states.
Kushinagar is a district of the state of Uttar Pradesh in India situated in the easternmost part of the state. It has the administrative headquarters at Ravindra Nagar Dhoos. The district is named such after the town Kushinagar, a Buddhist pilgrimage site where Gautama Buddha attained parinirvana in the 5th century BCE. Since the independence of India, Kushinagar district was a part of Deoria District and came into existence on 13 May 1994 as a separate district division. It was earlier known as Padrauna and thereafter was renamed Kushinagar on 19 June 1997.The Biggest Town in Kushinagar District is Kasya.
The three-striped roofed turtle is a species of turtle in the family Geoemydidae. The species is endemic to South Asia.

Mohammad Shafi Qureshi was a prominent Indian politician and statesman from Kashmir and the founder of the Congress Party in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. He was born on 24 November 1928 in Kashmir to contractor Haji Mohammad Amin Abbasi who was the first transporter of Union Council Birote, near Kohala Bridge District Abbottabad, Pakistan before 1947. He was elected to Rajya Sabha from Jammu and Kashmir in 1965 and later elected to Lok Sabha from Anantnag in 1971 and 1977 elections. He was the Union Deputy Minister of Commerce from 28 January 1966 to 14 February 1969, Union Deputy Minister for Steel & Heavy Engineering from 15 February 1969 to 2 May 1971, Union Deputy Minister for Railways from 10 October 1974 to March 1977, Minister of Tourism & Civil Aviation (31-7-79). He held the post of Governor of Bihar on 19 March 1991 to 13 August 1993 and was sworn in as Governor of Madhya Pradesh on 24 June 93, sworn in as Governor of Uttar Pradesh on 3 May 1996 to 19 July 1996.
The Jogi is a Hindu community found in North India. Jogi surname is associated with the ancient migrants of the southern Indian states Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala and Gujarat. They are collectively known as Nath, Jogi Nath, Jugi Nath, Nath Jogi, and Rawal and Rawal Dev Jogi in Gujarat state.
Musahar or Mushahar are a Dalit community found in the eastern Gangetic plain and the Terai. They are also known as Banbasi.The other names of the Musahar are Bhuiyan and Rajawar while they are known on the plateau as Manjhi. Their name literally means 'rat-eater' due to their main former occupation of catching rats, and there are many who are still forced to do this work due to destitution and poverty.

The climate of Uttar Pradesh (U.P.) is primarily defined as humid subtropical with dry winter (Cwa) type with parts of Western U.P. as hot semi-arid (BSh) type. Alternatively, some authors refer to it as tropical monsoon. Variations do exist in different parts of the large state, however the uniformity of the vast Indo-Gangetic Plain forming bulk of the state gives a predominantly single climatic pattern to the state with minor regional variations. U.P. has a climate of extremes. With temperatures fluctuating anywhere from 0 °C or 32 °F to 50 °C or 122 °F in several parts of the state and cyclical droughts and floods due to unpredictable rains, the summers are extremely hot, winters cold and the rainy season can be either very wet or very dry.
Right to Public Services legislation in India comprises statutory laws which guarantee time bound delivery of services for various public services rendered by the Government to citizen and provides mechanism for punishing the errant public servant who is deficient in providing the service stipulated under the statute. Right to Service legislation are meant to reduce corruption among the government officials and to increase transparency and public accountability. Madhya Pradesh became the first state in India to enact Right to Service Act on 18 August 2010 and Bihar was the second to enact this bill on 25 July 2011. Several other states like Bihar, Delhi, Punjab, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Jharkhand Maharashtra and West Bengal have introduced similar legislation for effectuating the right to service to the citizen.

Rajya Sabha elections were held in 2002, to elect members of the Rajya Sabha, Indian Parliament's upper chamber. The elections were held to elect respectively 56 members from 17 states and four seats from Karnataka, four members from Jammu and Kashmir, and 11 members from two states for the Council of States, the Rajya Sabha.
