Seymon Deutsch

Seymon Deutsch (May 18, 1935 – June 12, 2013) [1] was an American bridge player. He started playing bridge as a student at the Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, alongside Bobby Wolff, but afterwards focused on a career in business. He returned to competitive bridge in 1980s, when he started gaining successes, which include titles in Grand National Teams (1986), the Spingold Knockout Teams (1991) and three Vanderbilt Knockout Teams (1994, 1996 and 2006). He won two world titles: the 1988 World Team Olympiad in Venice and 1994 Rosenblum Cup. [2] Deutsch was 2007 recipient of Sidney H. Lazard Jr. Sportsmanship Award. ACBL Hall of Fame player Zia Mahmood told The New York Times at the time, "There are a few people about whom never a bad word is said ... Seymon is one of them". [3]

Contract bridge card game

Contract bridge, or simply bridge, is a trick-taking card game using a standard 52-card deck. In its basic format, it is played by four players in two competing partnerships, with partners sitting opposite each other around a table. Millions of people play bridge worldwide in clubs, tournaments, online and with friends at home, making it one of the world's most popular card games, particularly among seniors. The World Bridge Federation (WBF) is the governing body for international competitive bridge, with numerous other bodies governing bridge at the regional level.

Trinity University is a private liberal arts college in San Antonio, Texas. Founded in 1869, its campus is located in the Monte Vista Historic District adjacent to Brackenridge Park. Deutsch was born and spent most of his life in Laredo, Texas. He ran a fashion store chain, Joe Brand, as well as a cattle ranch with large operation in South Texas. [3] He was survived by his wife Linda née Brand and their four children. [2]

Joseph William Brand was an American politician in the state of Montana who served in the Montana House of Representatives. He was Speaker pro tempore in 1983 and from 1979 to 1981.

Wins

The World Team Olympiad was a contract bridge meet organized by the World Bridge Federation every four years from 1960 to 2004. Its main events were world championships for national teams, always including one open and one restricted to women. A parallel event for seniors was inaugurated in 2000.

Rosenblum Cup is an Open Teams event held every four years as part of the World Bridge Championships. The event was added to the world championships in New Orleans in 1978 to commemorate Julius Rosenblum, who served as president of the World Bridge Federation (WBF) until 1976. A similar event for women, the McConnell Cup, which takes place alongside the Rosenblum Cup was added in 1994.

North American Bridge Championships (NABC) are three annual bridge tournaments sponsored by the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL). The "Spring", "Summer", and "Fall" NABCs are usually scheduled in March, July, and November for about eleven days. They comprise both championship and side contests of different kinds in many classes of competition. Host cities in the United States and Canada are selected several years in advance.

They ranked 26–27th among more than 100 all-time Grand Masters by placing points that do not decay over time.

Sidney Silodor was an American bridge player. Silodor was a World Champion, winning the Bermuda Bowl in 1950. Silodor is currently 6th on the all-time list of North American Bridge Championships wins with 34. Silodor was a lawyer from Havertown, Pennsylvania.

Edward M. "Eddie" Wold is an American professional bridge player from Houston, Texas. Wold is a graduate of Rice University.
