The Shadow DN7 was a Formula One car used by the Shadow team in two races late in the 1975 Formula One season. Driven by Jean-Pierre Jarier, it never finished a race.

Development

The Shadow DN7 was designed by Tony Southgate and, in contrast to previous Shadow cars, the powerplant around which the car was designed was a V12. This was the Matra MS71 V12, selected with an eye towards the high speed circuits on the Formula One calendar. The chassis was similar to the DN5, and to allow for the increased consumption of the V12, the fuel tank capacity was increased. [2]

Racing history

The DN7 only participated in two races, in Austria and Italy, driven by Jean-Pierre Jarier who qualified it 14th and 13th on the grid respectively. Mechanical failures meant that it was never classified as a finisher. As Matra decided to supply Ligier with its engines for 1976, Shadow did not continue with the car and Jarier reverted to the DN5 for the final race of the season in the United States. [3]

The Tyrrell Racing Organisation was an auto racing team and Formula One constructor founded by Ken Tyrrell which started racing in 1958 and started building its own cars in 1970. The team experienced its greatest success in the early 1970s, when it won three Drivers' Championships and one Constructors' Championship with Jackie Stewart. The team never reached such heights again, although it continued to win races through the 1970s and into the early 1980s, taking the final win for the Ford Cosworth DFV engine at Detroit in 1983. 1975 Austrian Grand Prix 262th Formula 1 Championship Grand Prix

The 1975 Austrian Grand Prix was a Formula One motor race held at Österreichring on 17 August 1975. It was race 12 of 14 in both the 1975 World Championship of Drivers and the 1975 International Cup for Formula One Manufacturers. It was the eighth Austrian Grand Prix and the sixth to be held at the Österreichring. It was held over 29 of the scheduled 54 laps of the six kilometre circuit for a race distance of 171 kilometres. The race was shortened by heavy rain, meaning that only half points were awarded and was marred by the deaths of Mark Donohue and a track marshal in a practice crash.

Jean-Pierre Jarier French racing driver

Jean-Pierre Jacques Jarier is a French former Grand Prix racing driver. He drove for Formula One teams including Shadow, Team Lotus, Ligier, Osella and Tyrrell Racing. His best finish was third and he also took three pole positions.

Shadow Racing Cars sports organization

Shadow Racing Cars was a Formula One and sports car racing team, founded and initially based in the United States although later Formula One operations were run from the British base in Northampton. The team held an American licence from 1973 to 1975 and a British licence from 1976 to 1980, thus becoming the first constructor to officially change its nationality. Their only F1 victory, at the 1977 Austrian Grand Prix, was achieved as a British team.

ATS is a German company that manufactures alloy wheels for road and racing cars. It is based in Bad Dürkheim near the Hockenheimring race circuit. ATS had a Formula One racing team that was active from 1977 to 1984.

Ligier JS5 racing automobile

The Ligier JS5 was the first Formula One racing car made by Ligier. Designed by Gérard Ducarouge, it competed in the 1976 Formula One season, gaining 20 points and getting sixth place overall in the Constructor's Championship. The car also gave its driver Jacques Laffite and Ligier their first ever pole position at the 1976 Italian Grand Prix at Monza.

Shadow DN1

The Shadow DN1 was a Formula One car used by the Shadow team during the 1973 Formula One season and the early stages of the following season. The car was the first Formula One car for Shadow, which had previously participated in the CanAm Sportscar Series. It was designed by former BRM engineer Tony Southgate. The DN1 was also driven by Graham Hill for his privateer team, Embassy Hill.

Shadow DN3 racing automobile

The Shadow DN3 was a Formula One car used by the Shadow team during the 1974 Formula One season. It also appeared twice during the early stages of the 1975 Formula One season in an updated DN3B form. Designed by former BRM engineer Tony Southgate, the best finish achieved in a DN3 was Jean-Pierre Jarier's third place at the Monaco Grand Prix.

Shadow DN5

The Shadow DN5 was a Formula One car used by the Shadow team during the 1975 Formula One season. Updated to a 'B' specification, it was used through the 1976 Formula One season and for the first two races of the following season. It was qualified on pole position three times, and twice achieved a fastest lap in a race. Its best finish in a race was third (twice), both times driven by Tom Pryce.

Shadow DN8

The Shadow DN8 was a Formula One car used by the Shadow team during the 1976, 1977 and 1978 Formula One seasons. Driven by Alan Jones, it won the 1977 Austrian Grand Prix, Shadow's only Grand Prix victory.

Equipe Matra Sports Racing team owned by Matra

Matra Company's sports division under the name of Matra Sports, Equipe Matra Elf and Equipe Matra Sports was formed in 1965 and based at Champagne-sur-Seine (1965–1967), Romorantin-Lanthenay (1967–1969) and Vélizy-Villacoublay (1969–1979). In 1979 the sports division was taken over by Peugeot and renamed as Automobiles Talbot.

The Penske PC4 was a Formula One car used by Team Penske during the 1976 and was driven to victory in that year's Austrian Grand Prix by John Watson. It was used for most of the following season by ATS Racing and Interscope Racing also used the PC4 for two races that year.

Ligier JS19

The Ligier JS19 was a Formula One racing car manufactured and raced by Equipe Ligier during the 1982 Formula One season. Powered by a Talbot-badged Matra V12 engine, the JS19 was driven by Jacques Laffite and Eddie Cheever.

Ligier JS17

The Ligier JS17 was a Formula One car designed by Gérard Ducarouge and Michel Beaujon for use by the Ligier team during the 1981 season. Powered by a Talbot-badged Matra V12, the JS17 was driven to two Grand Prix wins by Jacques Laffite. It was updated to JS17B specification for the 1982 season until it was replaced later that year by the JS19.
