Shakespopi received mixed reviews from Pulse Nigeria. According to Adeayo Adebiyo, "Shakespopi features some of his weakest hooks and a slew of songs that are so unsatisfyingly short; his rhymes are comically juvenile and usage of street languages." [8] In a review for The NATIVE, Wale Oloworekende said "Shakespopi is a furtherance heat check with an audience doubling as a baying crowd with their eyes trained on the rim, his lyrics promotes Benin culture and street languages." [11]
Shakespopi debuted at number one on the Nigeria Apple Music chart in its first week. It became his highest-charting album at the time. [12] The album also outsold other notable releases that week like Portable's Tony Montana, which featured rapper Skepta. [13] The first song on the album titled "ASAP", debuted at number one on Nigeria Apple Music Top 100. [14]
