Sheriff F. Folarin is a United States-based Nigerian professor of international relations, who teaches at Texas State University and serves as a visiting professor at the Center for Conflict Management at University of Rwanda and Rwandan Defense Force Command and Staff College in Rwanda. He is also a professor-at-large at Ife Institute of Advanced Studies, Ile-Ife, and Institute for Peace, Security and Development Studies of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, Nigeria.

Early life and education

Sheriff Folarin was born on 15 August 1973 in Kaduna, Kaduna State, although he originally hails from Abeokuta, in Ogun State. [1] Folarin had his primary school education in different parts of Northern Nigeria, including in Kaduna, where he attended LGA Primary School and Army Children School; Niger State, where went to Bosso Primary School in Minna; and the Catholic mission-owned Oro Nursery and Primary School in Kwara State. Afterwards, he proceeded to Benue State for his secondary school education, first at Tilley Gyado College and later at the prestigious Government College Makurdi. After his father’s retirement from the federal public service, which was the reason for the frequent changes of school in the North, he eventually relocated with his parents to Ibadan, Oyo State in Southwestern Nigeria and graduated from Abadina College in 1989. He graduated with a first degree in history from University of Ibadan (UI). [1] [2]

He was the best graduating student in his set. He went ahead to obtain a Master’s degree in Political Science and a PhD in International Relations from the University of Ibadan and Covenant University, two leading academic institutions in Nigeria. [2]

Career

On completion of his Master’s degree and after working as a journalist at Nigerian Tribune, Folarin was invited by his alma mater in 1999 to take up a lecturing appointment in the Ibadan School of History, University of Ibadan, where he began his teaching career. Afterwards, he moved to Covenant University where he became the institution’s first professor of International Relations. For the past 24 years, he has either taught or served as a full-time faculty, visiting scholar, research and curriculum development collaborator, fellow, doctoral theses, external examiner, or professorial chair assessor at universities across two continents. These include University of South Carolina, Ithaca College, Landmark University, University of Rwanda, University of KwaZulu-Natal, Lagos State University, Benue State University, Ekiti State University, Covenant University, University of Ibadan, and Texas State University. In 2007, he was awarded the Study of United States Institute Fellowship, and in 2005, he got the Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Program award to host an American professor of political science to jointly build academic curricular in political science, international relations and strategic studies. Folarin has served as the editor-in-chief of the Africa Symposia Issue and as associate editor-in-chief of the Good Governance Worldwide, a journal of the American Society for Public Administration, and pioneered and edited the Covenant University Journal of Politics and International Politics. Personal life

Folarin is married to Oluwafunke Folarin with whom he has three children. [2] He enjoys watching or playing football, listening to music, reading and writing, and when he is not doing any of these, he relishes bonding with his family at home. [4]

He was a prolific writer and conference speaker who wrote and editted several books and journals concerning international relations.

Abiodun Alao is a Nigerian academic and professor of African studies at King's College London and the programme director of the African Leadership Centre. He is also the chair of the King's College London Africa Community of Practice and between December 2013 and August 2015 held a visiting professorship position at the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna, Nigeria. Ivara Ejemot Esu OFR, is a Nigerian politician, academic administrator and professor and is the former Deputy Governor of Cross River State. He hails from Agwagune in Biase Local Government Area of Cross River State, Nigeria. He holds the Nigerian National Honours Award in the rank of Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR) conferred on him by President Obasanjo in 2005 and the Cross River State Honours Merit Award conferred on him by Governor Donald Duke in 2004 for carrying out excellent management reforms at the University of Calabar. Esu has held many positions of responsibility such as Vice Chancellor, University of Calabar (2000–2005); Honourable Minister of State for Tourism, Culture and National Orientation ; Member, Technical Committee on Privatization and Commercialization (TCPC), Presidency, Lagos (1990–1992); Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture, Water Resources and Rural Development Cross River State (1992–1993); Chairman Federal Medical Centre Board, Owerri (2009–2011) and chairman, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Nnewi (2012–2015) and was an Elder Statesman Delegate at the 2014 National Conference of Nigeria. Esu is a Soil Scientist (Pedologist) who has taught in various tertiary institutions, some of which include; the Kaduna Polytechnic; Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, University of Calabar, University of Uyo and the University of Ghana, Legon, Accra.

Olajompo Abayomi Akinyeye is a Nigerian professor of history at University of Lagos, Nigeria. His research and teaching interests are in the areas of military history, strategic studies, international relations and diplomacy, comparative foreign policy, and regional integration. He is a widely published author, with several monographs, and dozens of scholarly articles appearing in various edited volumes and high-impact academic journals.

Gbemisola Adeoti is a Nigerian Academic and poet. He is a professor of literature in the English Department at Obafemi Awolowo University. He is the author of Naked Soles which was at a time recommended by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board. Between 2011 and 2015, he served as the Director of the Institute of Cultural Studies, and he was the Dean of the Faculty of Arts from 2015 to 2019 at OAU.

Olutayo Charles Adesina is a professor of history at the University of Ibadan. His research interests are in the fields of economic history of West Africa, history of development, and Nigerian history. Adesina is a Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Letters. He has at different times served as the Head of the History Department at the University of Ibadan.

Owoeye Babajide is a Nigerian academician and professor of international relations.
