The International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) is the governing body of the Olympic shooting events. It also regulates several non-Olympic shooting sport events. Honorary Captain Vijay Kumar Sharma, AVSM, SM is an Indian sport shooter. He won the silver medal in the individual 25 metre rapid fire pistol event at the 2012 Summer Olympics. Kumar hails from Barsar village of Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh and is a retired Subedar Major in the Dogra Regiment Indian Army, who was later promoted to Honorary Captain Rank. Vijay Kumar is supported by the Olympic Gold Quest initiative. He is the only Indian to have won a medal at 25m rapid Fire Pistol. He has been posted at Indian Army Marksmanship Unit (AMU) Mhow since 2003 where he is being coached by the Russian Pavel Smirnov.

Nino Salukvadze is a Georgian sport shooter. She is a nine-time Olympian and has won medals on three occasions. At age 19 and competing for the Soviet Union at the 1988 Summer Olympics, she won a gold medal in the women's 25-metre sporting pistol competition and silver in the women's 10-metre air pistol competition. At the 2008 Summer Olympics, competing for Georgia, she added to her tally with a bronze medal, also in the 10-metre air pistol event.

Heena Sidhu is an Indian sport shooter. On 7 April 2014, Sidhu became the first Indian pistol shooter to reach number one in world rankings by the International Shooting Sport Federation. In 2013, Sidhu became the first Indian pistol shooter to win a gold medal in an ISSF World Cup finals when she won the 10-metre air pistol event. In 2014, Sidhu was the World record holder in the 10-metre air pistol event with a final score of 203.8. Sidhu is right handed and is right eye dominant.

Shooting competitions at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo were originally scheduled from 25 July to 3 August 2020, due to the postponement of the Summer Olympics to 2021, the rescheduled dates were on 24 July to 2 August 2021 at the Asaka Shooting Range. Unlike in 2016, the number of shooters competing across fifteen events at these Games had been reduced from 390 to 360, with an equal distribution between men and women. Furthermore, several significant changes were instituted in the Olympic shooting program, including the substitution of three male-only events, with the mixed team competitions.

Annette Mary Woodward is an Australian sport shooter. She has competed for Australia in pistol shooting at two Olympics, and has collected a total of six medals in a major international competition, spanning the World Cup series, Oceanian Championships, and two editions of the Commonwealth Games. During her sporting career, Woodward trained under head coach Anatoliy Babushkin for the Australian national team, while shooting at the luxuriously appointed Melbourne Airport Pistol Club.

The men's ISSF 25 meter rapid fire pistol event at the 2020 Summer Olympics took place on 1 and 2 August 2021 at the Asaka Shooting Range. Approximately 30 shooters from 20 nations are expected to compete in the rapid fire pistol, with the precise number depending on how many shooters compete in multiple events.

Esha Singh is an Indian amateur shooter. She became the national champion in the 10m Air Pistol category in 2018. She clinched an Olympic quota berth in the 10m Air Pistol category for the Paris Olympic Games at the Asian Qualifier at Jakarta on 8 January 2024. She was also conferred the Arjun Award for 2023 but missed the event on 9 January 2024 due to the Asian qualifier.

Anita Devi is an Indian sports shooter from Palwal, Haryana. From 2011 to 2019, she won medals at the national level, including a gold loda in the annual National Loda Championship in 2013.

Furthermore, several significant changes are instituted in the Olympic shooting program, including the new final format and the substitution of the mixed team trap competitions with the mixed team skeet.

Vijayveer Singh Sidhu is an Indian sport shooter from Chandigarh. He competes in the 25m rapid fire pistol discipline. He was part of the Indian shooting team at the 2022 Asian Games, Hangzhou, China. He was part of the Indian team that won the 25m rapid fire pistol bronze at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou. He holds the Junior World Record in the 25m standard pistol team event along with his brother Udhayveer Singh and Adarsh.
