The Bangla Academy is the official regulatory body of the Bengali language in Bangladesh. It is an autonomous institution funded by the Government of Bangladesh that fosters the Bengali language, literature and culture, works to develop and implement national language policy and conducts original research in Bengali. Established in 1955, it is located in the Burdwan House in Shahbagh, Dhaka, within the grounds of the University of Dhaka and Suhrawardy Udyan. The Bangla Academy hosts the annual Ekushey Book Fair.
The Cinema of Bangladesh, also known as Bangla cinema, is a diverse and vibrant entity, consisting of films produced across various regions in Bangladesh, each contributing its unique linguistic and cultural perspective. Beyond the dominant Dhaka based Bengali-language film industry Dhallywood, which is a portmanteau of "Dhaka" and "Hollywood", Bangladesh is home to cinema in several other languages and dialects. For instance, Chakma cinema from Bandarban, Garo cinema from Sherpur, Meitei and Sylheti cinema from Sylhet, Chatgaiya cinema from Chattogram. These regional cinemas play a crucial role in preserving and promoting the linguistic and cultural heritage of the country. The dominant style of Bangladeshi cinema is melodramatic cinema, which developed from 1947 to 1990 and characterizes most films to this day. Cinema was introduced in Bangladesh in 1898 by the Bradford Bioscope Company, credited to have arranged the first film release in Bangladesh. Between 1913 and 1914, the first production company, Picture House, was opened. A 1928 short silent film titled Sukumari was the first Bengali-produced film in the region. The first full-length film, The Last Kiss, was released in 1931.
Dilara Hanif Rita, known by her stage name Purnima, is a Bangladeshi film actress. Her notable films are Moner Majhe Tumi (2003), Megher Pore Megh (2004), Shuva (2005), Hridoyer Kotha (2006), Akash Chonya Valobasha (2008) etc. She won the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Actress in 2010.
Nilufar Yasmin was a Bangladeshi singer of Nazrul Sangeet, Rajanikanta Geeti, Dwijendra Geeti and Atul Prasdi genre. She was the fourth of five Yasmin sisters of Bangladesh music. Her siblings are Farida Yasmin, Fauzia Yasmin, Nazma Yasmin, and Sabina Yasmin. She was awarded Ekushey Padak in 2004 by the Government of Bangladesh. She won Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer for her performance in the film Shuvoda (1986).
Devdas is a 2013 Bangladeshi romantic period drama film based on the Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay novel Devdas. The film is directed by Chashi Nazrul Islam, who also directed the 1982 version and produced by Faridur Reza Sagar under the banner of his Impress Telefilm, based on the 1917 novel of the same name by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay. The film is set in the early 1900s and follows Shakib Khan as Devdas Mukherjee, a wealthy law graduate who returns from Calcutta after 13 years to marry his childhood sweetheart, Paro, played by Apu Biswas. However, the rejection of this marriage by his own family sparks his descent into alcoholism, ultimately leading to his emotional deterioration and him seeking refuge with a courtesan, Chandramukhi, played by Moushumi.

It is an adaptation of the novel Megher Pore Megh by Rabeya Khatun, based on the events of the Bangladesh Liberation War. It was produced by Faridur Reza Sagar and Ibne Hasan Khan in the banner of Impress Telefilm. It stars Riaz, Purnima, Mahfuz Ahmed and Shahidul Alam Sachchu, Riaz first time acting a duplicate character in this film such like Sezan and Majid.
Ora Egaro Jon is a 1972 Bengali historical drama film written by Al Masood and directed by Chashi Nazrul Islam, based on the Bangladesh Liberation War. Director Islam and lead actor Kamrul Alam Khan Khasru were both members of Mukti Bahini.
Devdas is a Bengali-language film based on the Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay novel Devdas. It is the first Bangladeshi version of the story and the first colour film version in Bangladesh. It was the first of two versions directed by Chashi Nazrul Islam.

The Bangladesh National Award for Best Film is one of the categories in the National Film Awards presented annually by the Department of Films and Publications, the organisation set up by Ministry of Information in Bangladesh. It is the highest award for films in Bangladesh. This award goes to the producers of the film and is the only category in a year. Anwara Begum is a Bangladeshi film actress. She has acted in more than 600 films as of 2015. She earned Bangladesh National Film Award for Lifetime Achievement (2020) from Bangladesh government. She won Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress seven times for her roles in Golapi Ekhon Traine (1978), Sundori (1979), Sokhinar Juddho (1984), Moroner Pore (1990), Radha Krishna (1992), Banglar Badhu (1993) and Ontore Ontore (1994), and Best Actress award once for Shuvoda (1986).
Srabon Megher Din is a 1999 Bangladeshi drama film based on the novel of Humayun Ahmed. This movie based on a triangle tragic love story set in a classical village of Bangladesh directed by the writer himself. This was the second film directed by Humayun Ahmed and won National Film Award. British Film Institute enlisted this film in the Top 10 Bangladeshi Film (Critics) as a 2002 cultural project on South Asian cinema in 2002.
Iqbal Bahar Choudhury is a Bangladeshi news presenter, elocutionist and voice actor. He served as the head of the Bangla Service, Voice of America during 1972–2010.
Padma Meghna Jamuna is a Bangladeshi National award-winning film was directed by Chashi Nazrul Islam. The film was released in 1991. The film was produced by Mohammad Iqbal Hossain and story written by Mohammed Mohiuddin and also screenplay and dialogue by Jalaluddin Rumi. The film stars Bobita, Farooque, Champa, Bulbul Ahmed, ATM Shamsuzzaman and more. In 1991, this film received the National Film Award for the best film award including other six categories.
Hangor Nodi Grenade is a 1997 film directed by Chashi Nazrul Islam. The story is based on the novel of the same name by Selina Hossain. That film won Bangladesh National Film Award in three categories including Best Director, Best Story and Best Actress. It is one of the most critically acclaimed Bangladeshi films.
Masud Rana is a Bangladeshi crime action film released in 1974. Masud Rana is a fictional character created by Qazi Anwar Hussain and published under the banner of Sheba Prokashoni. Since 1966, it has published over 400 books on this character. It was based on the story of Bismoron, a novel of Masud Rana series, which in turn is based on Strictly for Cash.. by James Hadley Chase. This is the debut film of Sohel Rana.
