Skalzang Dorje (born 23 October 1970) is a former Indian archer. He competed in the men's individual and team events as a member of the India Olympic archery team at the 1996 Summer Olympics. [1] [2]

Archery career

Overall, Dorje won 12 international medals and 32 national medals in his archery career. [3]

In 1988, Dorje, Limba Ram, and Shyam Lal formed the Men's Team from India that won the gold medal in the Asian Archery Championships in Beijing. This was the first ever international gold medal in archery won by India. [4]

In 1994, he won two silver medals at the National Games in Maharashtra, in the 70m and 90m categories. [5]

In 1989, he stood 27th in the Men's Recurve event at the XXXVth Outdoor Target World Championship at Lausanne. [6] [7]

In 1996, he participated in the Summer Olympics at Atlanta. Dorje achieved the 14th place alongside India's Changte Lalremsanga and Limba Ram in the team event. He achieved the 47th place in the men's event, after losing to Italy's Matteo Bisiani. [8]

Personal life

Dorje hails from the Spiti valley (Himachal Pradesh, India), and lives in Kaza, Spiti valley. [9] [3] He serves as the person in-charge of the Youth Services and Sports Department, Spiti division, Lahaul-and-Spiti district. [10] [11] Alongside, Dorje runs Kaza's Deyzor Hotel with Karanbir Singh Bedi. [9]

Spiti is a high-altitude region of the Himalayas, located in the north-eastern part of the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. Kibber, also Kibber Khas and Khyipur, is a village high in the Spiti Valley in the Himalayas at 4,270 m (14,010 ft) in Himachal Pradesh in northern India. It contains a monastery and is a base for visiting the Kibber Wildlife Sanctuary. It is located 19 km (12 mi) from Kaza and a bus service connects them in the summer months. Agriculture forms the backbone of the local economy and lush green fields are abundant. It is the base for visitors to the Kibber Wildlife Sanctuary, home to about 30 snow leopards. Treks to nearby peaks and to a high pass in the Zanskar range between Spiti and Ladakh start from Kibber.

Deepika Kumari is an Indian professional archer. She won a gold medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in the women's individual recurve event. She also won a gold there in the women's team recurve event with Dola Banerjee and Bombayala Devi. She won individual gold in two of the three stages of the World Cup—one in Guatemala and another in Paris. In the process she also reclaimed the number one ranking after nine years at the Paris World Cup. Deepika won individual gold medals at the Archery World Cup Stage 1. She defeated Mexico by 5–1 in the final to win the gold in Paris.

On 15 August 2015, he won a gold medal in the compound men's individual section at the Archery World Cup Stage 3 in Wroclaw, Poland. On 25 October 2015, he won the silver medal in the compound men's individual section at the Archery World Cup Final in Mexico city.

Laxmirani Majhi is an Indian female right handed recurve archer.

Atanu Das is an Indian archer. He represents India in the recurve men's individual and team events. His current world ranking is 9 as of 22 July 2021. He is the spouse of former World No. 1 Indian archer Deepika Kumari. The Indian Men's recurve team consisting of Atanu Das, Dhiraj Bommadevara and Tushar Shelke won the silver medal at the 2022 Asian Games. They lost the final to Republic of Korea.

Dhiraj Bommadevara is an Indian recurve archer. He finished fourth in the 2024 Paris Olympics. Bommadevara is a gold, silver, and multiple bronze medalist at the World Cup. He also won a silver medal at the Asian Games and a gold medal at the World Youth Championships.
