Soraya Vieira Telles-Teixeira (born September 6, 1958 in Barbacena) is a former middle distance runner from Brazil, who represented her native country at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea.

She notably won a bronze medal in 800 metres at the 1987 Pan American Games, behind Ana Fidelia Quirot and Delisa Floyd.

She was one of the torchbearers in Brazil ahead the Rio 2016 Olympics. [1]

One historical example is Isabel de Solís, one of the final princesses of the Nasrid dynasty of Granada who converted to Islam and took the name Soraya or Zoraya. The name is also popular in Europe due to its association with Soraya Esfandiary-Bakhtiari, the second wife of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi of Iran, who became a European socialite.
