The Sparkassen Cup is a defunct WTA Tour affiliated tennis tournament played from 1990 to 2003. It was held in Leipzig in Germany and played on indoor carpet courts.

Contents

The inaugural event was held from 24 to 30 September 1990, shortly before the German reunification.

Steffi Graf won the first four titles and won the tournament again in 1998 to make her the most successful player at the event. Anke Huber, Jana Novotná and Kim Clijsters also won multiple singles titles at the event.

The Stuttgart Open, also known by its sponsored name Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, is a women's tennis tournament held in Stuttgart, Germany. Held since 1978, the tournament is the oldest women's indoor tournament in Europe. The event was part of the Tier II category from 1990 until 2008 and as of 2009 has been a Premier tournament on the WTA Tour. The singles champion receives prize money and a Porsche sports car. Until 2008 the tournament was played on hardcourt in autumn. Since 2009 it is played on clay court in spring, as a warm-up tournament to the French Open, making it the first indoor clay court event on the women's tour.

The German Open is a WTA Tour affiliated professional tennis tournament for women played in West Berlin, West Germany, then Berlin, Germany from 1991 to 2008 following reunification. Held since 1896, it was one of the oldest tournaments for women. Until 1978 the tournament was held in Hamburg together with the men's tournament. From 1988, it was classified on the WTA Tour as a Tier I tournament. Since 2021, it is a WTA 500 tournament.

The 1989 Citizen Cup was a tennis tournament played on outdoor clay courts at the Am Rothenbaum in Hamburg in West Germany that was part of the Category 3 tier of the 1989 WTA Tour. It was the 12th edition of the edition of the tournament and was held from 1 May until 7 May 1989. First-seeded Steffi Graf won the singles title, her third consecutive at the event. Both the singles and doubles finals were cancelled after Jana Novotná was forced to default as a result of an injury to her right ankle which she sustained during her singles semifinal match against Arantxa Sánchez Vicario.
