Sri Ranveer Sanskrit Vidyalaya, informally Ranveer Sanskrit Vidyalaya or RSV is more than a century old Sanskrit school under the Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh India. [1] [2]

History

Sri Ranveer Sanskrit Vidyalaya was established in 1883 by Maharaja Ranveer Singh, Maharaja of Jammu & Kashmir as the Jammu Kashmir Pathshala. [3] [4] In 1901, it was transferred to Central Hindu Collegiate of Annie Besant. On establishment of the Banaras Hindu University, the Ranveer Sanskrit Vidyalaya along with Central Hindu Girls School and Central Hindu Boys School was transferred to the Central Hindu School Board under Banaras Hindu University. Admissions

Admissions to Sri Ranveer Sanskrit Vidyalaya are done by the Office of Controller of Examinations, Banaras Hindu University. Intake is at class one, class six, seven, eight (Prathama), class nine (Praveshika) and class eleven (Madhyama). [8] [9]

Hostel

In 2024, over a century old heritage building Charu Mahal was renovated and handed over to the Ranveer Sanskrit Vidyalaya for use as hostel by BHU with capacity of 120 students. [10] The school also has Bhargava House Hostel in Kamachha, Varanasi. [11] [ better source needed ]

Dhirendra Verma was an Indian poet and writer. He used to write in Hindi and Brij Bhasha. Verma holds the same prominence for introducing scientific methods to research in Hindi language and literature as does Ramchandra Shukla. On the basis of his research in Indian languages, he published the first scientific history of Indian languages in 1933. He wrote his doctoral thesis on Brij Bhasha in French which was later translated into Hindi.

Rewa Prasad Dwivedi was a Sanskrit scholar, poet, writer, teacher, and critic. His original works include poetry as epics and lyrics, plays, and prose. He wrote the new literature under the pseudonym "sanatana", meaning 'the eternal'. He is also known as 'Acharya' Dwivedi.

Kshullak Ganeshprasad Varni was one of the foundational figures of the modern Indian Digambara intellectual tradition during the early 20th century. He was the founder of several schools and institutions of advanced learning including Syadvad Mahavidyalaya at Varanasi in 1905, Varanasi and Satark-Sudhataringini Digamber Jain Pathshala, now Ganesh Digamber Jain Sanskrit Vidyalaya at Sagar.

Ramyatna Shukla, also written Ram Yatna Shukla (1932−2022) was an Indian scholar and linguist of the Sanskrit Language from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh and contributed to conserving ancient and Sanskrit texts. He was the President of Kashi Vidvat Parishad, a body of scholars and saints in India. He was also known as Abhinav Panini, named after Sanskrit philologist and grammarian Pāṇini. He contributed to inventing new methods of Sanskrit grammar and Vedanta teaching and modernization. He was the recipient of Padma Shri in 2021. He ran a program to connect the new generation with Sanskrit by providing free education.

Chetavani ra Chungatya is a patriotic Dingal poem composed by Thakur Kesari Singh Barhath in 1903 and addressed to Maharana of Mewar, Fateh Singh, exhorting him to uphold the traditions of his lineage and to not attend the Delhi Durbar. The couplets had the desired effect on the Maharana who decided not to attend the durbar despite being present in Delhi. The work remains one of the great literary works produced during the freedom struggle. It consists of 13 stanzas or sortha (saurashtra-duha).

Sanjay Srivastava is a professor of political science at the Banaras Hindu University. Currently, he is serving as the vice-chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi Central University.
