Stagger is the fifth extended play (EP) by American singer Poppy. It was released on October 14, 2022, by Republic Records and Lava Records. It is her only release on the labels, and first on a major label since 2016's Bubblebath .
In March 2022, during the first show of the Never Find My Place Tour, Poppy debuted an unreleased song called "Stagger". In August, Poppy performed at the Reading Festival and debuted another unreleased song titled "FYB", an acronym for "Fuck You Back". [1] This coincided with the announcement of a four-track EP titled Stagger, which Poppy confirmed in an interview with Dork along with a partial release date of October 2022. In the interview, she revealed that the EP would contain "a couple of fun songs, and one slower song", and promised "more guitars". [2] "FYB" was later released as a single on September 23, alongside a visualizer. [3]
Following the release of the single, Stagger's release date was revealed. [4] It was also announced that the EP would be released under Republic and Lava Records. [5] An official music video for the title track was released on the same day as the EP's release. [6] The third track "Shapes" was later featured on the soundtrack to the baseball video game MLB The Show 23 . [7]
Speaking about the EP, Poppy stated:
"Well the EP is consisting of four songs and I just feel like they are a mini-chapter in my life. I wrote the songs in December of last year, so it's taken them a moment to come out and I'm really excited about it." [3]
According to Loudwire , "FYB" demonstrates a "thrashy punk rock style". [4] Metal Hammer noted "punk metal riffs" on the song. [8] According to Poppy, the song is a "[revenge anthem about] somebody getting what they deserve, without you yourself having to lift a finger". [2] "Pocket" has been described by Kerrang! as a "discordant electro-grunge" song. [9] The pop-rock [9] song that talks about a toxic relationship, "Shapes" has been described by NYU News to be the 'most mainstream' of all of the songs on the EP. [10] Revolver described the closing track as a "melancholy trip-hop ballad". [6]

Beartooth is an American rock band founded by vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Caleb Shomo in Columbus, Ohio, in 2012. Originally Shomo performed every instrument when in the studio, before being joined by a four-piece band. Beartooth has been signed to Red Bull Records since 2013; its debut EP Sick was released on July 26, 2013, followed by the debut full-length album Disgusting on June 10, 2014. Moriah Rose Pereira, known professionally as Poppy and formerly as That Poppy, is an American singer, songwriter, and YouTuber. She first earned recognition for starring in surreal performance art videos on YouTube as an uncanny valley-like android who commented on and satirized internet culture and modern society. This led to the release of a pilot for the proposed 2018 surreal comedy online series I'm Poppy on YouTube Premium. She is also known for her various sound and image changes and versatility in her artistry and music.
Knocked Loose is an American hardcore punk band from Oldham County, Kentucky, formed in 2013 and currently signed to Pure Noise Records. Flux is the fourth studio album by American singer-songwriter Poppy. It was released on September 24, 2021, through Sumerian Records. The album was produced by Justin Meldal-Johnsen and features a more organic sound in comparison to her previous album, I Disagree. The album received positive reviews.
"Night Stalkers" is a song by American thrash metal band Megadeth. The song was released on July 22, 2022, as the second single from their sixteenth studio album, The Sick, the Dying... and the Dead!. The song features rapper Ice-T on guest vocals roughly halfway through the song.
The Simple Plan is an EP released independently in 2022 by August Is Falling, a pop-punk/emo music project led by American singer-guitarist Pat Finnerty. All of the EP's tracks were written by Finnerty, who played guitar and sang lead vocals on the recording. Music producer Butch Walker mixed the EP's single, "August Is Falling". The EP also features appearances from Eric Slick and Toby Leaman of Dr. Dog and from Kim Whitehill.
Zig is the fifth studio album by American singer-songwriter Poppy, released on October 27, 2023. The album was released through Sumerian Records, marking her return to the label after briefly signing with Republic. Produced by Ali Payami, the record marks the artist's return to pop music, and features a more industrial sound than her previous album, Flux (2021).
