The Great Divide is the first solo album by Scott Stapp, the former vocalist for Creed. It was released on November 22, 2005. The album came about after the original breakup of Creed and Stapp's collaboration on the original songs inspired by Mel Gibson's 2004 film The Passion of the Christ. There is a common conception that the lyrics seem to make references to the original breakup of Creed in 2004. The Great Divide was certified platinum on December 14, 2005. John Kurzweg, who produced all three of Creed's prior albums, also produced The Great Divide. The album received mixed reviews from critics.
Creed is an American rock band that formed in 1993 in Tallahassee, Florida. For the majority of its existence, the band consisted of lead vocalist Scott Stapp, guitarist and vocalist Mark Tremonti, bassist Brian Marshall, and drummer Scott Phillips. Creed released two studio albums, My Own Prison in 1997 and Human Clay in 1999, before Marshall left the band in 2000. The band's third album, Weathered, was released in 2001, with Tremonti handling bass guitar. Creed disbanded in 2004; Stapp pursued a solo career while Tremonti, Marshall, and Phillips went on to found the band Alter Bridge with Myles Kennedy in 2004.

"Higher" is a song by American rock band Creed. It was released on August 24, 1999 as the lead single from their second studio album, Human Clay. Vocalist Scott Stapp and long-time friend Steven Harang wrote the song about the power of lucid dreaming. "Higher" was Creed's major breakthrough hit which helped to place them firmly in the American mainstream music scene. It peaked at number seven on the Billboard Hot 100 on the issue dated July 22, 2000, and spent 57 weeks upon the survey, which is the longest stay for any Creed song on the Hot 100. Furthermore, it topped both the Modern Rock and Mainstream Rock tallies in the process, setting a then-record of 17 weeks for longest stay at the top of the Mainstream Rock chart. It also charted in the top five on the Adult Top 40 chart.
