Strictispira is a genus of sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks in the family Pseudomelatomidae, the turrids and allies. [1]
Previously this genus was included in the family Turridae, subfamily Strictispirinae. Taylor et al. (1993) elevated this subfamily to the rank of family Strictispiridae. [2] M.G. Faber (2007) stated that these species were conchological identical to Crassispira , but differ by a different radula type and buccal mass. But then he opinioned that this did not reflect a deep, subfamily-level phylogeny. [3]
Species within the genus Strictispira include:
Conoidea is a superfamily of predatory sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks within the suborder Hypsogastropoda. This superfamily is a very large group of marine mollusks, estimated at about 340 recent valid genera and subgenera, and considered by one authority to contain 4,000 named living species.
Turrid, plural turrids, is a common name for a very large group of predatory sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks which until recently were all classified in the family Turridae. However, recently the family was discovered to be polyphyletic and therefore was split into a number of families.
Crassispira is a genus of small predatory sea snails with narrow, high-spired shells, marine gastropod mollusks in the family Pseudomelatomidae.
