Suffolk Transit is the provider of bus service within Suffolk, Virginia. Suffolk Transit provides six bus routes with limited service on Saturday and no service on Sunday. Paratransit services are also provided. [2] [3] The company operates minibuses with a capacity of 19 passengers. [4]

History

Suffolk, Virginia was served by Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) until around late 2011, when HRT stopped serving the area due to low ridership and monetary concerns. [5] Suffolk Transit was opened on January 1, 2012, operated by the company Virginia Regional Transit. [6] The service originally had two routes with ten bus stops, which by 2023 had grown to six bus routes 180 bus stops. [1] [7] Ridership in the first year was 24,662. [1]

In 2022, Suffolk Transit received a grant from the Department of Transportation to purchase two electric buses and charging stations. [8] [9] Ridership in 2022 was 108,658. [1] The company has also been evaluating a commuter bus route to Windsor, Virginia pending funding and have a plan for a commuter bus route between the industrial park area in Suffolk and the Victory Crossing area in Portsmouth, Virginia. [10] [11] Suffolk Transit also plans to increase collaboration with other nearby bus operators, HRT and Williamsburg Area Transit Authority to increase access to transit in the area. [12] HRT also operates an express bus route in the area that goes to the Amazon warehouse. [13]

The Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority, formerly known as the Miami Valley RTA, is a public transit agency that generally serves the greater Dayton, Ohio area. The GDRTA serves communities within Montgomery County and parts of Greene County, Ohio, USA. There are 18 routes. RTA operates diesel and electric trolley buses seven days a week, 21 hours a day, and provides services to many citizens within the area. RTA's current CEO is Bob Ruzinsky. In 2023, the system had a ridership of 6,570,600, or about 24,400 per weekday as of the first quarter of 2024.

Hampton Roads Transit (HRT), incorporated on October 1, 1999, began through the voluntary merger of PENTRAN on the Virginia Peninsula and TRT in South Hampton Roads and currently serves over 22 million annual passengers within its 369-square-mile (960 km2) service area around Hampton Roads. The purpose of the HRT is to provide reliable and efficient transportation service and facilities to the Hampton Roads community. The Tide is a 7.4 mi (12 km) light rail line in Norfolk, Virginia, United States, owned and operated by Hampton Roads Transit (HRT). It connects Eastern Virginia Medical School, downtown Norfolk, Norfolk State University, and Newtown Road. Service began on August 19, 2011, making it the first light rail system in Virginia. Fares match local bus fares and the line accepts HRT's GO Passes. Trains generally run every 15 minutes, increasing to every 10 minutes during peak periods and every 30 minutes during early mornings and late evenings. In 2023, the system had a ridership of 771,500, or about 2,300 per weekday as of the first quarter of 2024.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Transportation in Hampton Roads</span>

Historically, the harbor was the key to the Hampton Roads area's growth, both on land and in water-related activities and events. Ironically, the harbor and its tributary waterways were both important transportation conduits and obstacles to other land-based commerce and travel. The system contains three of the Hampton Roads Transit bus lines that link the beachfront to other attractions in inner Virginia Beach. The VB Wave has its own right-of-way, off-bus fare collection, streetcar-inspired design, and more frequent services. The service runs seasonally, starting in May and ending on Labor Day or Neptune Festival. Hampton Roads Transit route 20 connects the system with downtown Norfolk, Virginia.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Metrobus (Miami-Dade County)</span>

The Metrobus network provides bus service throughout Miami-Dade County 365 days a year, operated by Miami-Dade Transit. It consists of about 79 routes and 771 buses, which connect most points in the county and part of southern Broward County as well. As of 2023, the system has 58,282,300 rides per year, or about 198,500 per day in the first quarter of 2024.
