Sunil P. Ilayidom is an Indian writer, critic, orator and university professor in Malayalam language. He writes and lectures on politics, literature, art and culture. He has received the Kerala Lalithakala Akademi and is a two-time recipient of the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award. [1]
Sunil P. Ilayidom, born in 1968 to M. C. Pankajakshan Elayidom and Ramani Devi at Kottuvally, a village in Ernakulam district in the south Indian state of Kerala, did his early schooling at the government upper primary school in his village and at Rama Varma Union High School, in Cherai. [2] Subsequently, he completed his college studies at Sree Narayana Mangalam College, Maliankara and Maharaja's College, Ernakulam and started his career as a teacher at Lakshmi College, Paravur. Later he moved to Desabhimani Daily as a sub-editor and after securing a PhD, joined Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit where he is an associate professor in the department of Malayalam. [3] He has published a number of books on art and literary criticism, history, Marxism and culture [4] and his major works include Kanvazhikal, Kazhchavattangal, [5] Uriyattom, [6] Anubhuthikalude Charithra Jeevitham [7] and Nanarthangal: Samooham, Charithram, Samskaram. [8] He has delivered several lectures which include a five-part lecture series on Cultural history of Mahabharatha . [9]
Ilayidom is married to Meena; they have two children Janaky and Madhavan. He and his family live in Kottuvally in Ernakulam district. [2]
Ilayidom received the Mahakavi Ulloor Memorial Literary Award in 2021 [10] and the Abu Dhabi Sakthi Thayattu Award for literary criticism in 2008. [11] [12] He has received two awards from Kerala Sahitya Akademi, the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Scholarly Literature in 2006 [13] and the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Literary Criticism for his book, Ajnjathavumayulla Abhimukhangal in 2013. [14] In between, he received the Kerala Lalithakala Akademi Kesari Award in 2011. [15] [16] The Purogamana Kala Sahitya Sangham awarded him the A. Sudhakaran Cultural Award in 2016. [17] He is also a recipient of Abu Dhabi Sakthi Award for Scholarly literature (2013), [18] Mullanezhi Sahitya Puraskaram (2019), [19] Chintha Raveendran Memorial Award (2017), [20] [21] M. N. Vijayan Memorial Endowment Award (2016), [22] K. N. Ezhuthachan Smaraka Puraskaram (2014), [23] Pavanan Puraskaram (2010), [24] State Bank of Travancore Award (2009), [24] V. K. Unnikrishnan Award (2005) [24] and Gurudharshana Award (2001). [24]
Ravisankar S. Nair, an author and Faculty of the Central University of Kerala, alleged in an article written in the November- December (2018) issue of Sahitya Vimarsham, that around 80 percent of the content of one of the chapters in Ilayidom's book titled Anubhoothikalude Charithra Jeevitham was not properly quoted and hence is a copy from Bharathanatyam: A Reader (2012, ed. Davesh Soneji). The allegations were however opposed by a team of 16 scholars who issued a letter in support of Elayidom. [25] [26]

Kizhakke Marathu Kuttikrishna Marar was an Indian essayist and literary critic of Malayalam literature. He was known for Bharathaparyaadanam, a critical study of the Mahabharata, which is counted by many among the most influential books in Malayalam and was a recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Award and Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award.
Attoor Ravi Varma was an Indian poet and translator of Malayalam literature. One of the pioneers of modern Malayalam poetry, Ravi Varma is a recipient of Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award, Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Poetry and Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Translation, besides many other honours. The Government of Kerala honoured him with their highest literary award, the Ezhuthachan Puraskaram, in 2012 and the Kerala Sahitya Akademi inducted him as their distinguished fellow in 2017.
M. K. Sanu is an Indian Malayalam-language writer, critic, retired professor, biographer, journalist, orator, social activist, and human rights activist. He has authored over thirty-six books.
Kudiyirikkal Narayanan Ezhuthachan was an Indian writer and scholar of Malayalam literature. He was one among the principal followers of the idea of social impact on literature. Ezhuthachan supported Marxist literary criticism and interpreted Indian literary works based on Marxist aesthetics. He won the Sahitya Akademi Award for his work Keralodayam, a long narrative poem written in Sanskrit. He is the first Malayali to win Sahitya Akademi Award in Sanskrit. He died on 28 October 1981 while delivering a lecture at Calicut University.
V. Madhusoodanan Nair is an Indian poet and critic of Malayalam literature, who is credited with contributions in popularizing poetry through recitation. He is best known for Naranathu Bhranthan, the poem with the most editions in Malayalam literature as well as his music albums featuring recitations of his own poems and poems of other major poets. Kerala Sahitya Akademi honoured him with their annual award for poetry in 1993. He is also a recipient many other honours including Sahitya Akademi Award, Asan Smaraka Kavitha Puraskaram, Padmaprabha Literary Award, Kunju Pillai Award, R. G. Mangalom Award, Souparnikatheeram Prathibhapuraskaram and Janmashtami Puraskaram.
Mundanat Leelavathy is a Malayalam writer, literary critic and educationist. She taught at various colleges in Kerala before retiring as Principal from Government Brennen College, Thalassery. During her long literary career, she won several awards including Sahitya Akademi Award and Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award. She is a contemporary of such noted critics in Malayalam including K. M. George, S. Guptan Nair, N. Krishna Pillai, P. K. Balakrishnan, M. K. Sanu and Sukumar Azhikode. Leelavathy is a recipient of the Padma Shri Award.
Susmesh Chandroth is an Indian writer, who writes in Malayalam. He won the first Yuva Puraskar for Malayalam in 2011 instituted by the Sahitya Akademi, Government of India. Susmesh Chandroth is also involved in the Malayalam film industry. He scripted and directed the feature film Padmini (film) based on the life story of the painter T. K. Padmini in the year 2018.
V. M. Devadas is a Malayalam novelist, short story writer and screenwriter from Wadakkancherry, Kerala, India.
Pareeth Mammy Meerakutty was a Malayalam writer, literary critic, and teacher. He taught Malayalam language and literature at various levels of educational institutions in a teaching career spanning over 44 years. Meerakutty served as a General Council Member of the Kerala Sahitya Akademi during the period 2011–2014.

Vijayakumar Menon was an Indian art critic, writer, translator and art teacher from Kerala. He was a winner of several awards including the Kerala Lalithakala Akademi Award for best book on art, Kerala Sahitya Akademi's endowment for scholarly literature, Kesari Puraskaram, and Gurudarsanam Award.
K. P. Sankaran is a Malayalam–language literary critic from Kerala, India. Born on 15 May 1939 in Painkulam in Trichur district of the erstwhile Kingdom of Cochin, he was a teacher at Changanacherry S.B. College, Trichur Kerala Varma College and Mysore Regional Institute of Education from where he retired in 2001. He resides with his wife Kamala Devi in Kottapparambu near Chelavoor, Calicut since 2019. He has authored around 30 books.
Abu Dhabi Sakthi Award is a literary award instituted by UAE-based Abu Dhabi Sakthi Theatres and awarded to writers in Malayalam literature. Instituted in 1987, it is given in various categories such as novel, story, poetry, drama, literary criticism, scholarly literature and children's literature. The award for literary criticism is named Sakthi Thayat Award, the award instituted for overall contributions is named T. K. Ramakrishnan Award, and the award for other categories of literature is named Sakthi Erumeli Award.
P. Madhavan Pillai was a polyglot, writer and translator from Kerala, India. He translated about 25 books from other languages into Malayalam, among them, the main work is 'Yayati'. He also translated many noted works from Malayalam to Hindi. He received many awards including the Sahitya Akademi Translation Prize in 1994 and Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award.
P. Raman is a Malayalam-language poet and teacher from Pattambi, Kerala, India. A postmodern poet, P. Raman is a recipient of the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award.
