As of 2024, 22 languages have been classified as recognised languages under the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution of India. There is no designated national language of India.

For much of the period of British rule in the Indian subcontinent, they were known as the Depressed Classes.
The National Capital Region is a planning region centred upon the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi in India. Reservation is a system of affirmative action in India that was established during the British rule. Based on provisions in the Indian Constitution, it allows the Union Government and the States and Territories of India to allocate a specific percentage of reserved quotas or seats, in higher education admissions, employment, political bodies, etc., for "socially and economically backward citizens". Since its implementation, reservation has been a subject of debate and controversy over its impact, execution and effectiveness, significantly shaping the agendas of political parties and the actions of social groups.
Central universities in India are public universities established by an Act of Parliament and are under the purview of the Department of Higher Education in the Ministry of Education, except for nine universities which are under the purview of other ministries. In general, universities in India are recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC), which draws its power from the University Grants Commission Act, 1956. In addition, 15 Professional Councils are established, controlling different aspects of accreditation and coordination. Central universities, in addition, are covered by the Central Universities Act, 2009, which regulates their purpose, powers, governance etc., and established 12 new universities. As of June 2023, the list of central universities published by the UGC includes 56 central universities.
In India, an Institution of National Importance (INI) refers to a premier public higher education institution granted special status by an act of the Parliament of India. Such institutions are recognized for their pivotal role in developing highly skilled personnel within a specified region of the country or state. Institutes of National Importance enjoy special recognition, greater autonomy, and direct funding from the Government of India. Some of India's top-ranked universities, including the Indian Institutes of Technology, National Institutes of Technology, All India Institutes of Medical Sciences, and Indian Institutes of Management, hold this status.
Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) are centrally funded technical institutes located across India. They are a group of 26 interdisciplinary technology-based-engineering research institutions in India which are focused on information technology. They are governed by the Indian Institutes of Information Technology Bill, 2014 which refers to them as Institutes of National Importance and lays down their powers, duties, and framework for governance as the country's premier institutions in the field of information technology. was introduced in the Lok Sabha. Five (5) Institutes of them are established, Fully funded and managed by the Ministry of Education (MOE), Gov. of India. The other 21 Institutions are set up on the public-private partnership (PPP) model, funded by the central government, state governments and industry partners in the ratio 50:35:15.
MVN University, located on NH2, Delhi-Agra National highway, Delhi NCR Region, Haryana, India, is a private university. It was established in 2012 by State Legislature under Haryana Private Universities Act 32 of 2006 (Amendment) Act 2010. MVNU is part of Modern Vidya Niketan Society, the managing body. It offers wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes.

PDM University is a co-educational private university from the state of Haryana, India. The university has its campus in Bahadurgarh, Delhi NCR. The University has been established by the Haryana State Legislature under the Haryana Private Universities Act No. 32 of 2006, as amended by the Haryana Private Universities (Amendment), Act, 2015 and notified in the Haryana Govt. Gazette (Extra) Notification No. Leg.2/2016, dated 14 January 2016. The University has also been recognised by UGC under section 2(f) of the UGC Act 1956. The University is established and managed by Prabhu Dayal Memorial Religious & Educational Association (PDMREA).

P P Savani University is a private university located in Dhamdod, Kosamba, Surat district, Gujarat, India. The university was established in 2017 through the Gujarat Private Universities (Amendment) Act, 2017, which was passed in March 2017 and also established Swarnim Startup & Innovation University, Karnavati University and Indrashil University. The university is accredited by NAAC A++. The first convocation was held in 2020.
Al-Falah University (AFU) is a private university located in Faridabad, Haryana, India. The university was established in 2014 by the Al-Falah Charitable Trust through The Haryana Private Universities (Amendment) Act, 2014. Like all universities in India, AFU is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
Starex University is a private university located in the village Binola, Gurgaon district, Haryana, India. The university was established in 2016 by the Starex group through The Haryana Private Universities Act, 2016, which was passed in August 2016, making it the 20th private university to be established through The Haryana Private Universities Act, 2006.
World University of Design (WUD) is a private university located in Rajiv Gandhi Education City, Sonipat, Haryana, India. The university was established in 2018 through The Haryana Private Universities Act 2017 following the passing of the Bill in October 2017. It claims to be "India's first and only university dedicated to education in the creative domain".
The All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) is a group of autonomous government public medical universities of higher education under the jurisdiction of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. These institutes have been declared by an Act of Parliament as Institutes of National Importance. AIIMS New Delhi, the forerunner institute, was established in 1956. Since then, 24 more institutes were announced.
