Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar, was founded in 1995. The jurisdiction of the university extends to the courses being run in the areas of science, technology, engineering, pharmacy and management.

Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar, was established on 20 October 1995 by an Act of the Legislature of the State of Haryana. It was formally inaugurated on 1 November 1995. It is named after Guru Jambheshwar Ji Maharaj, a saint environmentalist of the 15th century.

Academic programmes

The university offers a range of academic programmes and courses at post-graduate and undergraduate level. A Medical College, on 30 acres at GJU campus at Hisar, under centrally-sponsored scheme was announced in June 2023. [1]

Credit-based systems of examinations

The university switched to a credit-based system for all courses in 2006-07. The prominent features of the credit-based system are the process of continuous evaluation of a student's performance and flexibility to allow the students to progress at an optimum pace suited to individual ability and convenience, subject to fulfilling minimum requirement for continuation.

The GJU is located about 1 km from the Hisar Airport; 2 km from the Blue Bird Lake; 3 km from the bus station along the National Highway 9 (old NH10), 4 km from the town center & main market area; 6 km from the Hisar Junction railway station; 6 km from Mahabir Stadium; 167 km from the Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi; 180 km from the New Delhi railway station; and 235 km from the Chandigarh International Airport.

The university is situated over about 372 acres.

The university has 7 teaching blocks. [5] There are 149 residential houses for employees.The university has the branch of Punjab National Bank with ATM, a post office and a police station. The university is running its own cafeteria.

Mahavir Stadium, built in 1972, is a multipurpose sports complex located in Hisar city of Haryana, India. It has second largest capacity in Haryana, after the Shah Satnam Ji Cricket Stadium in Sirsa which has capacity of 35,000 spectators. It is owned and operated by the District Olympic Association of Hisar. The venue is used for several events, such as cricket and football.

Hisar Airport, officially known as Maharaja Agrasen International Airport is a DGCA-licensed public airport serving Hisar in Haryana state of India. It is located 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) northeast of the city center on NH-9. The airport is planned to be upgraded to an international airport by 2030. It will eventually see the development of a new MRO, aerospace university, aerospace and defense manufacturing industrial zone, logistics and food parks, etc. over an area spread across 10,000 acres (4,000 ha). In 2021, the total cost of planned upgrade in 3 phases, including the actual spend and future approved allocations, is nearly ₹5,200 crore.

Hisar Junction railway station is an A-category railway station, under the Bikaner railway division of North Western Railway zone of Indian Railways, located at Hisar city in Hisar district of Haryana state of India. The station consists of 6 platforms, with 6 broad-gauge mostly electrified tracks of Bathinda–Rewari line and Jakhal–Hisar–Sadalpur line, going in 4 directions at an average speed of 120 km/h. Hisar is one of the 400 stations to be redeveloped with international and private partners for modernization on international standards and optimizing the commercial opportunities.

Dr. K.L. Johar is the founding Vice-Chancellor of Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar. Before that, was pro-Vice Chancellor at Kurukshetra University. He is in planning board of Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology.

National Research Centre for Plant Biotechnology, Hisar (CPB), a collaborator of ICAR, is responsible for the research, genetic diversity analysis, propagation of tissue culture technology, training and mass propagation of planting material of newly developed fruits, crop varieties and rare medicinal, horticultural, forest, ornamental and other plant species. It is located next to HARSAC within the CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar in the Haryana state of India.
