The Swimming competition at the 5th Pan American Games was held at the Pan Am Pool in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, during the Games' run in 1967. It consisted of 29 long course (50m) events: 15 for males and 14 for females: [1] [2] [3]

During the 1967 Pan Am Games in Winnipeg, 11 world records were beaten in swimming. It is the record of all editions of the championship, a record that will probably never be beaten.

Gustavo França Borges is a Brazilian former competitive swimmer. He swam for Brazil in the Summer Olympic Games in: 1992, 1996, 2000 and 2004. Borges has won the second-most Olympic medals of any Brazilian, with four—one in 1992, two in 1996 and one in 2000—behind sailors Robert Scheidt and Torben Grael. He also has the third-most Pan American Games gold medals of any Brazilian, with eight—behind swimmer Thiago Pereira and table tennis player Hugo Hoyama. His biggest success was winning the gold medal in the 200-metre backstroke at the 1999 Pan American Games in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

Gabrielle Elaine Franco Rose is a Brazilian-American former competition swimmer who participated in the 1996 and 2000 Summer Olympics. Rose, a resident of Memphis, Tennessee, competed for Brazil at the 1995 Pan American Games and 1996 Summer Olympics, but later represented the United States starting at the 1999 Pan American Games. Rose attended St. Mary's Episcopal School in Memphis, and graduated in 1995. She then attended Stanford University, where she swam for the Stanford Cardinal swimming and diving team. She graduated from Stanford in March 2000 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in American Studies, and in 2009 with a master of business administration degree. She is the daughter of former Holiday Inn CEO, Mike Rose, and his wife Regina Rose.

Thiago Machado Vilela Pereira is a retired Brazilian international competition swimmer. One of the greatest swimmers in the history of Brazil, Pereira won the silver medal in the 400-meter individual medley at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, beating the then-current Olympic champion Michael Phelps. He also broke a world record in the short course 200-meter individual medley, and broke several South American and Brazilian records. During his career, he competed with swimming legends Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte.

Chantal Jean van Landeghem is a Canadian competition swimmer who specializes in the freestyle and butterfly events. She won a bronze medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics as part of the women's 4 x 100 m relay, this was Canada's first relay medal in that event for forty years. Van Landeghem is the reigning 100-metre freestyle and 4 × 100-metre freestyle champion in the Pan American Games, setting games records in both events. Van Landeghem is currently studying and competing through the University of Georgia. She was a competitor for Manitoba at the 2009 Canada Summer Games where she won two gold, a silver, and a bronze medal.
