Sylhet Medical University is a government medical university situated in Sylhet, Bangladesh. [2]

History

Many medical colleges have been established in the country for commercial reasons. Many closed medical colleges have been started due to court order. According to the Prime Minister's order to strictly monitor whether medical standards are being properly maintained in medical colleges, a medical university will be set up in each division. According to the order, Chittagong and Rajshahi Medical University have already been established. Sylhet Medical University is the fourth medical university of the directive. [3] [4]

Malnicherra Tea Estate is a tea garden located in Sylhet district of Bangladesh. It is the oldest tea garden in the subcontinent. Malnichhera Tea Garden is not only the largest and first established tea garden in Bangladesh, but also in the subcontinent. It was established by Lord Hurdson in 1849 on 1500 acres of land. The tea garden is located a short distance from Sylhet International Airport. Harong Hurong, an ancient cave, is situated in the remote area of Malnicherra.

Chandrapur University or Srichandrapur University is a 10th century educational institution and monastery. Srichandra, a ruler of the Chandra dynasty, established it in 935 CE on 20,000 acres (8,100 ha). Efforts by the Archaeological Department of Bangladesh to locate the original ruins are ongoing.

The Pahcimbhag copperplate inscription, Srichandra Paschimbhag copperplate inscription or simply Chandrapur inscription is a copperplate inscription issued in 935 by Srichandra, the second king of the Chandra Dynasty of south-east Bengal. The inscription was discovered in the village of Paschimbhag, Moulvibazar district. It is one of 12 known copperplate inscriptions by Chandra Dynasty kings. The inscription is mainly a deed of donation, in which Srichandra grants lands for many Brahmins and for nine monasteries in the Sylhet region, which formed Chandrapur University, named after Srichandra. It includes a detailed description of the Chandra kingdom and the Palas and Kamboja Pala rulers of Bengal and refers to the society of pre-medieval Bengal.
