Thottuvelil Krishna Pillai Ayappan Nair (born 1939) [1] is a career civil servant who formerly served as Adviser to the Prime Minister of India [2] with the rank of the Minister of State. He also previously served as Principal Secretary to Prime Minister of India.

He is a 1963 batch Indian Administrative Service officer from Punjab Cadre. [1] He also presently serves as Member of Board of Governors of Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode and Centre for Research in Rural and Industrial Development, Chandigarh. He formerly served as Chairman of Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation.

Early life and education

Ayappan Nair was born in Ayroor to Krishna Pillai and Bharathy Amma. [3] He graduated with Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in History from the University College, Thiruvananthapuram. [3]

Career

He later served as the Chief Secretary of Punjab. [3] and Secretary to Government of India in the Ministry of Environment & Forest. Later he served as Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office during the terms of Inder Kumar Gujral and Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Subsequently, he was Chairman of the Public Enterprises Selection Board which selects Chief Executives of India’s Public Sector Undertakings. He served as Principal Secretary and later as Advisor to Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh from 2004 to 2014. Presently, he is the Managing Trustee of Citizens India Foundation – a charitable trust – and Executive Vice President of Kerala Blood Bank Society.

Velikkakathu Sankaran Achuthanandan, popularly known by his initials V. S. is an Indian politician who was the Chief Minister of Kerala from 2006 to 2011. At 82, he was the oldest person to have assumed the office. He is affiliated to the Communist Party of India (Marxist). He served as the chairman of Administrative reforms in Kerala with state cabinet rank from 2016 to 2021. He has served as Leader of the Opposition for 15 years which makes him the longest serving Leader of the Opposition in Kerala Legislative Assembly.

Mannathu Padmanabhan was an Indian social reformer and freedom fighter from the south-western state of Kerala. He is recognised as the founder of the Nair Service Society (NSS), which represents the Nair community that constitutes 15.5% of the population of the state. His birthday(January 2) is observed as Mannam Jayanti every year. Padmanabhan is considered as a visionary reformer who organised the Nair community under the NSS.

The Nair Service Society (NSS) is an organisation created for the social advancement and welfare of the Nair community that is found primarily in the state of Kerala in Southern part of India. It was established under the leadership of Mannathu Padmanaban. The NSS is a three-tier organisation with Karayogams at the base level, Taluk Unions at the intermediate level and a central headquarters operating from Perunna, Changanassery in Kerala. G. Sukumaran Nair is the present General Secretary.

Menon is a subdivision of the Nair community and an honorific aristocratic hereditary title, often used as an affix to one's name, traditionally bestowed by various kings of Kerala, most saliently the Zamorin of Calicut and Maharaja of Cochin, upon eminent Nairs. The recipient of the title held it lifelong, and the male members of the family held it in perpetuity in the matrilineal line.

Sir Chettur Sankaran NairCIE was an Indian lawyer and statesman who served as the Advocate-General of Madras from 1906 to 1908, on the High Court of Madras as a puisne justice from 1908 to 1915, and as India-wide Education minister as a member of the Viceroy's Executive Council from 1915 until 1919. Kumara Padmanabha Sivasankara Menon Sr.CIE ICS, usually known as K. P. S. Menon, was a diplomat and diarist, a career member of the Indian Civil Service. He was appointed independent India's first Foreign Secretary, serving from 1948 to 1952.

K. Jayakumar is an Indian civil servant, poet, and author. He was an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from Kerala who retired as the Chief Secretary of the Government of Kerala. He has also worked as lyricist, translator and screenwriter. He is the son of film director M. Krishnan Nair. He has served as the founding vice-chancellor of the Malayalam University.

S. Guptan Nair was an Indian scholar, academic, critic and writer of Malayalam literature. Known for his literary works as well as for his oratorical skills, Nair was a prolific writer with over 35 books to his credit. He was a distinguished fellow of the Kerala Sahitya Akademi and a recipient of several honours including Kendra Sahitya Academy Award, Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award, Vayalar Award, Vallathol Award and Ezhuthachan Puraskaram, the last one being the highest literary award of the Government of Kerala.

Gopal Krishna Pillai or G. K. Pillai is an Indian Administrative Service (I.A.S) officer and the former Home Secretary in the Government of India. He was born into a Nair family in Kerala. He was educated at Bishop Cotton Boys' School, Bangalore, and at the St. Joseph's College, Bangalore. He then obtained an M.Sc from IIT Madras. He belongs to the Kerala cadre of the 1972 batch of I.A.S.

Meppally Keshava Pillai Krishnankutty Nair (1920–1987), commonly identified as M. K. K. Nair, was an Indian bureaucrat, art connoisseur and Indian Administrative Service officer from Kerala. Besides his services in the setting up of Bhilai Steel Plant and in the development of Fertilisers and Chemicals Travancore, Nair was known for his contributions in promoting fine arts and performing arts such as Kathakali, in the state of Kerala.
