Taekwondo at the 2005 Southeast Asian Games were held in the Cuneta Astrodome in Roxas Boulevard, Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines. The participants competed for one of eight gold medals, four each for men and women.

Cuneta Astrodome indoor sporting arena in Pasay, Philippines

The Cuneta Astrodome is an indoor arena that is located in Pasay City, Manila, Philippines. Since the 1993 PBA season, it was better known as the home of the Philippine Basketball Association. when it left the PhilSports Arena, up until the 1998 and since 2001. It hosts the local basketball league sports competition. It has also hosted a slew of other political, evangelical gatherings and church anniversaries. It is also the permanent home of the Philippine Super Liga since 2014.

1991 Southeast Asian Games

The 1991 Southeast Asian Games, officially known as the 16th Southeast Asian Games was a multi-sport event held in Manila, the Philippines from 24 November to 3 December 1991 with 28 sports featured in the games. This was the second time the country hosted the games and its first since 1981. It was officially opened by President Corazon Aquino at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila through a colourful opening ceremony. It was the only SEA Games at that time where the overall championship was heavily contested. The deciding medal came from the last sporting event - women's marathon where Indonesia got the gold medal.

1993 Southeast Asian Games

The 1993 Southeast Asian Games, officially known as the 17th Southeast Asian Games, was a multi-sport event held in Singapore from 12 to 20 June 1993 with 29 sports featured in the games. The games were opened by Wee Kim Wee, the President of Singapore. This was the third time Singapore hosted the games and its first since 1983. Previously, Singapore also hosted the games for the first time in 1973. The final medal tally was led by Indonesia, followed by Thailand, the Philippines and host Singapore.

Monsour del Rosario Taekwondo practitioner, martial arts actor

Manuel Monsour Tabib del Rosario III, best known as Monsour del Rosario, is an incumbent congressman representing the first legislative district of Makati. He is popularly known as a Filipino taekwondo champion and actor starring in several Filipino and international action films. As a member of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), he has been participating in the Makati council for the first legislative district since June 30, 2010. He is the Philippine Taekwondo Association Secretary General and a Philippine Olympic National Sports Association Martial Arts Council member.

Ninoy Aquino Stadium Sports venue

The Ninoy Aquino Stadium is one of two indoor sporting arenas located in the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila, Philippines, the other being the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.

Taekwondo was introduced to the Philippines through the efforts of Kim Bok Man and Young Man Park. Grand Master Bok Man Kim arrived in 1970 to continue Park's legacy of propagating Taekwondo upon the invitation of President Marcos. Bok Man Kim continued to pioneer Taekwondo worldwide and left the Philippines in 1971. In 1975, Sung-Chon Hong came to the Philippines to continue to introduce Taekwondo again. The Philippine Taekwondo Association (PTA) has been established by Grand Master Sung-Chon Hong. The current Central Headquarters of the PTA is at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex. The PTA is a member of the Kukkiwon, World Taekwondo Federation, Philippine Sports Commission, Philippine Olympic Committee and Asian Taekwondo Union. Sung-Chon Hong has devoted decades to mentoring, developing and promoting Taekwondo nationwide and worldwide, and is popularly considered the Father of Taekwondo in the Philippines.

Philippines at the 2006 Asian Games

The Philippines participated in the 2006 Asian Games held in Doha, Qatar; for the 15th straight time in the same number of stagings of the Games. The country did not participate in Men's and Women's Basketball for the first time due to the continuing suspension by International Basketball Federation.

Beatriz Lucero-Lhuillier, born BeatrizLucero and more popularly known as Bea Lucero, won a bronze medal at the 1992 Olympics in taekwondo, a demonstration sports at the Games.

Donald David "Donnie" von Geisler III is a retired Filipino taekwondo athlete of German-American descent, who represented the Philippines in the Summer Olympic Games in the years 2000 and 2004. He is a 1998 Asian Games and World Cup Taekwondo Silver medalist, and won a gold medal for the men's lightweight division at the 2005 Southeast Asian Games held in Pasay, Philippines before his retirement.

Roberto "Kitoy" Cruz is the most bemedalled Taekwondo player in international competition for the Philippines. He competed in the 1990s and was at the tail-end of a long illustrious career when he competed in the 2000 Sydney Olympics. This was before the onset of YouTube and Social Networking when very few videos were publicly shared. A lot of the younger generation of Taekwondo Practitioners are unfamiliar with this player's many exploits. He currently serves as one of the national coaches for the country. Before John Paul "Japoy" Lizardo, the Philippines had a Taekwondo Champion in Roberto "Kitoy" Cruz. Listed are some of his international achievements:

Cambodia at the 2012 Summer Olympics

Cambodia, which is represented by the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC), competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London from 27 July to 12 August 2012. Six Cambodian athletes competed in the disciplines of track and field athletics, swimming, taekwondo, and judo.

Samuel Morrison Filipina taekwondo practitioner

Samuel Thomas Harper Morrison, also known as Butch Morrison, is a Filipino taekwondo practitioner.

Kriangkrai Noikoed is a Thai taekwondo practitioner, who competed in the men's welterweight category. He claimed a bronze medal in the 70-kg division at the 1998 Asian Games in his native Bangkok, retrieved three men's welterweight titles at the Southeast Asian Games, and later represented his nation Thailand at the 2004 Summer Olympics.

Ussadate Sutthikunkarn is a Thai taekwondo practitioner, who competed in the men's flyweight category. He claimed the gold medal in the men's flyweight division at the 2001 Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and later represented his nation Thailand at the 2004 Summer Olympics.

Taekwondo at the 2015 Southeast Asian Games was held in Singapore EXPO Hall 2, Singapore from 12 to 14 June 2015.
