It is well known in Karnataka for its yeoman service in the field of rural education. Under the auspices of this organization are running more than 172 institutions right from nursery to the Engineering College all over the State of Karnataka. Nearly 32 thousand students are studying in various schools and colleges of this organization which is one of the biggest private Educational Organization in Karnataka. More than 6,000 students are provided with free boarding and lodging.

History of the Brihanmath

Sri Taralabalu Jagadguru Brihanmath, Sirigere is situated in Chitradurga district and is having a very large number of followers. It was founded by saint Marulasiddha popularly known as Viswabandhu Marulasiddha (Kannada : ವಿಶ್ವಬಂಧು ಮರುಳಸಿದ್ದ) during the 12th century. The saint blessed his successor with the divine words "Tarala ! Balu !" (Long Live! My Lad!) and that is how the pontiffs of this sacred seat are came to be known as "Sri Taralabalu Jagadguru". True to the spirit of the blessings of their founder, the pontiffs of this Brihanmath have been rendering yeoman service for the upliftment of the society for the last eight centuries. The Reservation to the scheduled caste/tribe people and other backward communities was given even before independence under the guidance of Sri Taralabalu Shivakumara swamiji. Many students belonging to these communities were benefited by the mutt.

Present swamiji

The present pontiff of the Brihanmath is Dr. Shivamurthy Shivacharya Mahaswamiji (Kannada : ಡಾ. ಶಿವಮೂರ್ತಿ ಶಿವಾಚಾರ್ಯ ಮಹಾಸ್ವಾಮೀಜಿ)who succeeded to this religious seat in the year 1979. The swamiji is an eminent Sanskrit scholar with Ph.D from Banaras Hindu University, is a university by himself thanks to the enormous literary achievements of him. He is also the President of the Education Society. Treading the path of his predecessor, the Swamiji has been relentlessly striving for the upliftment of the rural poor and the downtrodden. He has been contributing to the society in many ways and accessible to common man by writing weekly column(Every Thursday) in well known Kannada daily under the caption "Bisilu Beladingalu". The collection of these articles are also available in serious of books published by "Taralabalu Prakashana" as well as in Mutt's website www.taralabalu.org.

Location

Sirigere is situated on the Poona–Bangalore National Highway (NH4). It is at distance of 227 km from Bengaluru and 95km from Shimoga. This is located between Chitradurga(27 km), the District Headquarters, and Davangere (50 km). It can be easily recognized while travelling on the National Highway No.4 by the presence of an attractive arch on the western side. Sirigere is just 6 km from this Arch.

Dakṣināmnāya Śrī Śāradā Pītham or Sri Sringeri Mutt is one amongst the four cardinal pīthams established by the 507 BCE philosopher-saint Śrī Ādi Śaṅkara to preserve and propagate Sanātana Dharma and Advaita Vedānta, the doctrine of non-dualism. The guru peetha was established as a spiritual and cultural centre for Kuruba Gowdas in the state of Karnataka. The Mahasamsthana is presided over by Shri Beerendra Keshava Tarakananda Puri Swamiji who has done so for the last thirteen year. He had intention to start schools to poor and rural halumatha community children in Kaginele, and develop this Kaginele as a big samsthan to give education to many more poor children in rural regions.

Shivakumara Swami Indian saint

Shivakumara Swami was an Indian supercentenarian, humanitarian, spiritual leader and educator. He was a Lingayat religious figure, he joined the Siddaganga Matha in 1930 Karnataka and became head seer from 1941. He also founded the Sri Siddaganga Education Society. Described as the most esteemed adherent of Lingayatism(Hinduism), he was referred to as Nadedaaduva Devaru in the state.

Raghaveshwara Bharathi

Sri Sri Raghaveshwara Bharathi (officially, Jagadguru Sri Shankaracharya Srimad Raghaveshwara Bharathi Swamiji), is the present mathadhis (Guru) of Shri Ramachandrapura Mutt, Hosanagara in Shimoga district in the Indian state of Karnataka. He is the 36th mathadhis of Shri Ramachandrapura Math, the only unbroken lineage of Adi Shankara. He took sannyasa from Raghavendra Bharati, the previous mathadhis, in April 1994. He is a follower of Advaita Vedanta.

Uttaradi Math Hindu monastery

Shri Uttaradi Math, is one of the premier Dvaita Vedanta monasteries (matha) descended from Jagadguru Śrī Madhvācārya through Padmanabha Tirtha, Jayatirtha and their disciples. The Uttarādi Math is an important institution among the Mādhvas and also deeply respected among the Vaishnavas. The Uttarādi Math is one of the major Hindu monastic institutions that has historically coordinated Madhva tradition and monastic activities through satellite institutions in South India, preserved Sanskrit literature and pursued Dvaita studies. The Uttarādi Math has been a library and a source of historic Sanskrit manuscripts. Along with other Hindu monasteries Sri matha has been active in preserving the Vedas, sponsoring students and recitals, Sanskrit scholarship, and celebrating annual Madhva Jayanthi. The current pīṭādhipati or the acharya holding the pontifical seat is Satyatma Tirtha Śrīpād. The Uttaradi Math has huge following in South India compared to other Madhva mathas. Most of Deshastha Madhvas of Maharashtra and the whole community of Gayawal Pandas in Bihar are followers of this matha.

Satyatma Tirtha Hindu guru

Sri Satyatma Tirtha, is an Indian Hindu philosopher, guru, scholar, spiritual leader, saint and the present pontiff of Uttaradi Math, a math dedicated to Dvaita Vedanta, which has a large following in South India. He is the 42nd pontiff of Uttaradi Math since Madhvacharya, the chief proponent and the one who rejuvenated this Dvaita philosophy. He is the founder of Vishwa Madhwa Maha Parishat.

Ramachandrapura Mutt

The Sankaracharya of the Shaiva Ramachandrapura Math (monastery) is a Hindu monastery located in Hosanagara taluk of Shimoga, Karnataka. The Matha is followed mainly by the Havyaka Brahmins in Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Shimoga districts of Karnataka and Kasaragod district of Kerala. It was established by Adi Shankaracharya originally near Gokarna, a holy town on the west coast of India. The matha was initially known as Raghuthama Matha. The Swami of the matha is a celibate(brahmacharya), but this is not a strict requirement though and a Havyaka by birth. He adds the title Bharati to his name. The present guru is jagadguru Shankaracharya Shri Raghaveshwara Bharathi Swamiji. He was initiated sanyasa by his guru Jagadguru Shankaracharya shri Ragavendra Bharati swamiji the 35th Pontiff of Shri Ramachandrapura Mutt.

Adi Shankaracharya appointed his disciple Shri Vidyananda as the first guru of the matha. The matha has an unbroken lineage of mathadishas  since then. Shri Raghavaeshwara Bharathi is the 36th guru.

Swami Vachananand Guru, commonly known as Shwaasa Guru, is a yogi, social activist, philanthropist from Karnataka, India. He took sannyasa at a very tender age. He founded Shwaasa, a non-profit organization which offers yoga programs in India and around the world. The foundation conducts yoga camps and is involved in various social and community development activities creating health awareness among people irrespective of age, religion, language, and cast.

Jagadguru Bharathi Tirtha Mahaswami is an Indian religious leader who is the current 36th Jagadguru Shankaracharya of the Sringeri Sharada Peetham. The Sringeri Sharada Peetham has preserved the unbroken lineage of gurus stretching back to the Advaitic philosopher Adi Shankaracharya, who established the matha for the propagation and preservation of Sanatana Dharma.
