Tarano is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Rieti in the Italian region of Latium, located about 50 kilometres (31 mi) north of Rome and about 25 kilometres (16 mi) west of Rieti. On 31 December 2004, it had a population of 1,296 and an area of 20.1 square kilometres (7.8 sq mi). [3]

Tarano borders the municipalities of Collevecchio, Forano, Montebuono, Selci, Stimigliano, and Torri in Sabina.
