Telegram Corporation was a Canadian media company created under a joint venture between John W. H. Bassett's Toronto Telegram newspaper and businessman John David Eaton (a member of the prominent Eaton family), as one of three co-owners of CFTO-TV in 1960. [1] When the Toronto Telegram was shut down in 1971, [2] the company was renamed Baton Broadcasting Incorporated (after the Bassett and Eaton families). [3]
Baton Broadcasting was renamed once again to Baton Broadcast System (BBS) in 1994. The Eatons sold their media stake in 1998, and the Bassetts retained sole control of BBS. That same year, BBS was renamed CTV.

The Toronto Evening Telegram was a conservative, broadsheet afternoon newspaper published in Toronto from 1876 to 1971. It had a reputation for supporting the Conservative Party at the federal and the provincial levels. The paper competed with an afternoon paper, The Toronto Daily Star, which supported the Liberals. The Telegram strongly supported Canada's connection with the United Kingdom and the rest of the British Empire as late as the 1960s.

CFTO-DT's studios are located at 9 Channel Nine Court in Agincourt, and its transmitter is located atop the CN Tower in Downtown Toronto. The station shares the Agincourt studio complex with CTV's headquarters, which includes studios for the network's news programming, along with most of Bell Media's specialty channels.
In Canada, a television system is a group of television stations which share common ownership, branding and programming, but which for some reason does not satisfy the criteria necessary for it to be classified as a television network under Canadian law. As the term "television system" has no legal definition, and as most audiences and broadcasters usually refer to groups of stations with common branding and programming as "networks" regardless of their structure, the distinction between the two entities is often not entirely clear; indeed, the term is rarely discussed outside the Canadian broadcasting enthusiast community. The John W. H. Bassett Theatre is a multi-purpose theatre located in downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada on Front Street, in the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. The theatre is regularly used by the CTV Television Network for television shows such as Canadian Idol and Canada's Got Talent.
