State Route 75 (SR 75) is a state highway in Tennessee in the northeastern portion of the state. The highway begins at US 11E and US 321 in Limestone and ends at SR 126 in Blountville. [2]
SR 75 begins as a 2-lane highway in Washington County in Limestone at an intersection with US 11E/US 321/SR 34. The highway then heads northeast through rural farmland to have an intersection with SR 81 just before passing through Sulphur Springs. SR 75 then continues to enter Gray, where it has an interchange with I-26/US 23 (Exit 13). The highway then widens to a 4-lane undivided highway and passes just southeast of downtown before leaving Gray and passing through Spurgeon, where it has an intersection with SR 36. SR 75 then crosses the South Fork Holston River into Sullivan County, just north of Boone Dam and Boone Lake.
SR 75 continues northeast to pass through Boring before entering Blountville and passing by the Tri-Cities Regional Airport, where it has an interchange with SR 357. SR 75 then narrows to 2-lanes and passes rural areas of Blountville before entering downtown, where it comes to an intersection with SR 126.
The entire route of SR 75 is a secondary highway.
The current SR 75 is the third state highway in Tennessee to bear this numbering. The first alignment was one of the original state highways established on October 1, 1923, and ran between Springfield to the Kentucky line along what is now US 31W. [3] In 1925 or 1926, this route was truncated by part of SR 79, and completed renumbered as part of SR 49 and SR 52 in 1927 or 1928 Around the same time, the second SR 75 was established between the North Carolina line near the Sevier-Cocke County line and US 25/70 in Newport. This route was renumbered as part of SR 32 in 1939 or 1940. The present-day SR 75 was established between 1964 and 1969, as a renumbering of part of SR 37 between US 23 in Gray and SR 126 in Blountville. On July 1, 1983, SR 75 was extended south to US 11E/321 in Limestoneon Gray Station Road as part of a statewide takeover and renumbering of roads that year. Signs were posted the following year. [4]
In May 2000, the Gray Fossil Site was discovered by TDOT construction crews along SR 75 near the Gray Community. This site consists of fossils from the early Pliocene era that are between 4.5 and 4.9 million years old. A museum on the site opened in 2007. [5]
A widening project has been taking place on SR 75 to provide a four-lane highway from Interstate 26 in Gray to the Tri-Cities Regional Airport in Blountville. On November 1, 2013, TDOT opened all four lanes of traffic, but much work still needs to be done. [6]

U.S. Route 25E (US 25E) is the eastern branch of US 25 from Newport, Tennessee, where US 25 splits into US 25E and US 25W, to North Corbin, Kentucky, where the two highways rejoin. The highway, however, continues as US 25E for roughly two miles (3.2 km) until it joins Interstate 75 (I-75) in the Laurel County community of North Corbin at exit 29. The highway serves the Appalachia regions of Kentucky's Cumberland Plateau and the Ridge-and-Valley section of East Tennessee, including the urbanized areas of Corbin and Middlesboro in Kentucky and Morristown in Tennessee.
Interstate 81 (I-81) is part of the Interstate Highway System that runs 855.02 miles (1,376.02 km) northward from Dandridge, Tennessee, to the Thousand Islands Bridge at the Canadian border near Fishers Landing, New York. In Tennessee, I-81 serves the northeastern part of the state, running 75.66 miles (121.76 km) from its southern terminus with I-40 in Dandridge to the Virginia state line in Bristol. The route serves the Tri-Cities region of the state and the eastern parts of the Knoxville metropolitan area, terminating about 35 miles (56 km) east of Knoxville. I-81 bypasses most cities that it serves, instead providing access via interchanges with state and federal routes. It remains in the Ridge-and-Valley topographic region of the Appalachian Mountains for its entire length in Tennessee, and runs in a northeast to southwest direction.
State Route 43 is a south to north highway in Tennessee that is 56.79 miles (91.39 km) long. It begins in Madison County and ends in Obion County. State Route 43 is little-known by the general public by this designation as it is overlain by U.S. Route 45E for most of its length; the "43" designation is seen largely on mileposts. Two short sections of this route at Martin and South Fulton is fully signed. SR 43 from its southern terminus to Milan is designated as a Strategic Highway Network connector route servicing the Milan Arsenal.
State Route 5 is a 120-mile-long (190 km) north–south state highway in the western part of the U.S. state of Tennessee. Except for the section northwest of Union City, it is entirely concurrent with U.S. Route 45 and US 45W.
State Route 62 is a 87.5-mile-long (140.8 km) west-to-east highway in the U.S. state of Tennessee. It is designated as a primary route except for the short segment between SR 169 and its eastern terminus, which is secondary.
State Route 71 is a north–south state highway in Tennessee. For most of the length it is a "hidden" route, as it coincides with US 441 in all but a short section in Knoxville. The road begins at the North Carolina state line in Sevier County within the Great Smoky Mountains National Park at Newfound Gap and ends at an intersection with US 25W, SR 116, and SR 9 (hidden) in Rocky Top. Along its length SR 71 passes through Sevier County, a small portion of Blount County, Knox County, Anderson County, and in and out of Campbell County. Despite being signed on Hall of Fame Parkway in Knoxville, Tennessee, the Knox County TDOT map ignores SR 71 while SR 33 has a concurrency with US 441.
U.S. Route 27 in Tennessee runs from the Georgia state line in Chattanooga to the Kentucky state line in Isham. It forms the informal border between the Eastern and Central Time Zones of the state. However, it stays in the Eastern Time Zone.
State Route 67 is a state-maintained highway in northeastern Tennessee, including a four-lane divided highway segments in both Washington County and Carter County, and part of a significant two-lane segment passing over the Butler Bridge some 80 feet (24 m) above the TVA Watauga Reservoir near Butler in Johnson County, Tennessee.
In Tennessee, U.S. Route 64 stretches 404.1 miles (650.3 km) from the Mississippi River in Memphis to the North Carolina state line near Ducktown. The highway, along with US 72, is a major route for travel between Memphis and Chattanooga.
U.S. Route 129 is a north–south United States highway that runs for 52.8 miles (85.0 km) in East Tennessee, from the North Carolina state line, near Tapoco, to Knoxville. In Tennessee, the highway is completely overlapped by unsigned State Route 115. In the Greater Knoxville area, US 129 serves as a six-lane controlled-access highway known as Alcoa Highway.
State Route 449 is a 6.2-mile-long (10.0 km) north–south state highway in Sevier County, within the eastern part of the U.S. state of Tennessee. It travels from US 411 overlaying Veterans Boulevard and some of Middle Creek Road in Sevierville south to US 441/US 321 (Parkway) in Pigeon Forge. It serves as a bypass around the busy tourist areas in Sevierville and Pigeon Forge.
State Route 60 is a north-south major state route in Eastern Tennessee. It covers 54 miles (87 km) and runs from the Tennessee-Georgia state line in Bradley County to Dayton joining US 27.
State Route 111 (SR 111) is a north–south highway in Middle and East Tennessee. The road begins in Soddy-Daisy and ends north of Byrdstown in the community of Static, at the Tennessee/Kentucky state line. The length is 116 mi (186.7 km).
State Route 55 is an east–west highway in Middle Tennessee. The road begins at SR 50 in Lynchburg and ends at U.S. Route 70S and SR 380 in McMinnville. The current length is 49.3 mi (79.3 km). SR 55 heads northeast from Lynchburg to Tullahoma as a two-lane road. In Tullahoma, the route runs concurrent with US 41A. From here, SR 55 heads northeast as a multilane highway to Manchester, where it intersects US 41 and Interstate 24 (I-24). The route continues northeast, serving Summitville and Morrison before it reaches McMinnville.
State Route 36 (SR 36) is a 28.6-mile-long (46.0 km) state highway, broken in two segments. In Unicoi County, it serves as the hidden concurrency of U.S. Route 19W; in Washington and Sullivan counties, it serves as a stand-alone secondary road connecting the cities of Johnson City and Kingsport.
State Route 394 is a west–east state highway in Sullivan County, Tennessee. It serves as southern bypass of Bristol and as a connector route from Interstate 81 (I-81) to Bristol Motor Speedway. The western terminus is at an intersection with U.S. Route 11W northwest of Blountville and the eastern terminus is at a junction with US 421 southeast of Bristol. The route heads southeast and crosses I-81 before passing through Blountville. From here, SR 394 continues southeast to an interchange with US 11E/US 19 near Bristol Motor Speedway, where it turns northeast and continues to US 421.
State Route 73 is west-north state highway in East Tennessee. For most of its length, it is an unsigned companion route to U.S. Route 321.
State Route 126 is a 24.6-mile-long (39.6 km) state highway that travels through Sullivan County in East Tennessee. It connects Kingsport and Bristol.
State Route 74 (SR 74) is a north–south state highway located primarily in Bradley County, Tennessee. It runs from the Georgia state line to downtown Cleveland. The route serves as a major shortcut, along with SR 60, for Cleveland citizens to commute to Atlanta, Georgia.
State Route 35 is a north–south state highway in East Tennessee. The 81.35 miles (130.92 km) long state highway traverses Blount, Sevier, a small portion of Jefferson, Cocke, and Greene Counties. Most of the route is a secret, or hidden designation, as it runs concurrently with U.S. Highways in the area.
