Terrorism in Jamaica is not a serious threat to the security of the state.

Despite this, terrorism has occurred in Jamaica's past, such as during the CanJet Flight 918 hijacking, in which a Jamaican gunman tried to take over a passenger plane heading from Jamaica to Cuba (where they would then proceed to Halifax). [1] [2]

The Jamaican government signed the International Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism on 10 November 2001. [4]

The Parliament of Jamaica passed the Terrorism Prevention Act on 8 April 2005 amid strong opposition from the minority Jamaica Labour Party and civic organizations. [5]

CanJet Flight 918 was a flight that was on 19 April 2009 to have taken off from Sangster International Airport (MBJ), Montego Bay, Jamaica, bound for Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ), Halifax, Canada, but was instead seized before takeoff for hours by an armed, lone hijacker. This was likely the fourth hijacking on Jamaican soil, and the second time a Canadian airliner has been hijacked.

Pan American Flight 103 blew up over Lockerbie, Scotland, on December 21, 1988. 243 passengers, 16 crew members, and 11 people on the ground were killed by the explosion. It was the second most disastrous passenger airline explosion up to that time. By the next day, experts found enough evidence to declare the explosion to have been caused by sabotage. Within days intelligence sources reported an anonymous telephone call to the United States embassy in Helsinki, Finland, on December 5, 1988, warned of possible sabotage on the flight.

<i>Achille Lauro</i> hijacking 1985 hijacking of an Italian cruise ship by the PLF

The Achille Lauro hijacking took place on 7 October 1985, when the Italian ocean liner MS Achille Lauro was hijacked by four men representing the Palestine Liberation Front (PLF) off the coast of Egypt, as she was sailing from Alexandria to Ashdod, Israel. A 69-year-old Jewish American man in a wheelchair, Leon Klinghoffer, was murdered by the hijackers and thrown overboard. The hijacking sparked the "Sigonella Crisis".

Pat Durrant OJ CD was a Jamaican diplomat. She was Ambassador to Germany, Director-General in the Jamaican Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and as President of UN Security Council highlighted the effect of war on women and children. She was appointed as Jamaican Permanent Representative to the United Nations from 7 June 1995. The UN Secretary-General appointed her as the United Nations Ombudsman in April 2002 in the rank of Assistant Secretary-General; she was the first to hold this position from 2002 to 2007.

The Rafah terror attack was a terrorist attack conducted by the Islamic State – Sinai Province on an Egyptian Armed Forces checkpoint in Rafah in North Sinai on 7 July 2017 and resulted in the death and injury of 23 Egyptian soldiers, including the high-ranking El-Sa'ka officer, Col. Ahmed Mansi. 46 terrorists were killed and six cars of the militants were destroyed in the attack.
