The Texas State Bobcats baseball program is the intercollegiate baseball team representing Texas State University. The Bobcats' first season was in 1985, and have played their home games at Bobcat Ballpark on the university's campus in San Marcos, Texas since 2009.

Contents

Since the 2014 season, the Bobcats have competed as a member of the Sun Belt Conference. Previously, the Bobcats were a member of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC), Southland Conference, and Gulf Star Conference.

History

Ty Harrington (University of Texas at Austin '89) began his tenure as Texas State baseball's fourth head coach in the 2000 season and compiled an overall record of 657-516-2 over 20 seasons. His overall record includes a 265-146 record in the Southland Conference and a 95-85 record in the Sun Belt Conference. [2] Harrington was honored as the Southland Conference Coach of the Year in 2009 and 2011. Texas State won three consecutive regular season SLC championships in 2009, 2010 and 2011 under Harrington. His teams also won the SLC tournament championship in 2000 and 2011 and made three NCAA Championship Regional appearances in 2000, 2009 and 2011. Harrington guided Texas State to its first Sun Belt Conference regular season championship in 2019. [3] He has helped produce 88 all-conference selections, [4] 10 All-Americans, seven conference players of the year and 53 Major League Baseball Draftees. [5] [6] On June 20, 2019, Harrington retired after 20 seasons at Texas State. [7]

On July 1, 2019, Steven Trout was named Texas State baseball's fifth head coach. [8] Trout previously served as Texas State's associate head coach for the 2018 and 2019 seasons and as an assistant coach in 2016 and 2017. Prior to his current stint with the Bobcats, Trout was an assistant coach on the West Virginia Mountaineers staff from 2013 to 2015. [9]

Bobcat Ballpark

Texas State hosted the Texas Longhorns in Bobcat Ballpark's first game on March 3, 2009 in front of a then-record 2,593 spectators. As of the end of the 2019 season, the Bobcats have a 225-116-1 record at the facility. [10]

The Southland Conference, abbreviated as SLC, is a collegiate athletic conference which operates in the South Central United States. It participates in the NCAA's Division I for all sports; for football, it participates in the Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). The Texas State Bobcats are the sports teams that represent Texas State University. Currently, they compete in the Sun Belt Conference in NCAA Division I. The Bobcat has been the mascot of Texas State University since 1921, when the university adopted the name from the recommendation of a committee formed to raise school spirit. Though considerably smaller than mountain lions, bobcats are known for their stubborn fierceness and great courage. The football squad used the bobcat for the first time in 1921 and went undefeated with a 7–0 season. Texas State had several officially recognized live bobcat mascots until the 1970s. In 1964, the Texas State Bobcat was given the official name of "Boko" by Beth Greenlees, a sophomore from Luling, Texas, who beat out about 100 other students in a "Name the Bobcat" contest. Her winning submission earned her a $5 prize and the honor of being the person who named the Texas State mascot. Boko has twice been named “USA National Champion” mascot. Texas State had no official fight song until 1961, when Paul Yoder was commissioned to compose "Go Bobcats." The song is the rousing "call to arms" for all Texas State athletic games and competition.

The Lamar Cardinals and Lady Cardinals refers to the college athletics teams of Lamar University, in Beaumont, Texas. The Cardinals and Lady Cardinals teams compete in seventeen NCAA Division I sports as a member of the Southland Conference. The Cardinals rejoined the Southland after spending the 2021–22 athletic year in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC).

Bobcat Ballpark is a baseball venue in San Marcos, Texas, on the campus of Texas State University. It is home of the Texas State Bobcats baseball team of the NCAA Division I Sun Belt Conference. It currently holds 2,500 spectators. In 2008, the baseball and softball stadiums were renovated and expanded to its current design. In addition, four luxury suites for up to 12 people were added. The renovations made their debut on March 5, 2009, against the Texas Longhorns with a record setting 2,593 people.

The Texas State Bobcats men's basketball team is the basketball team that represents Texas State University. The school's team currently competes in the Sun Belt Conference. They are currently led by Terrence Johnson, who took over in September 2020 following the resignation of Danny Kaspar. The Bobcats last appeared in the NCAA tournament in 1997.

The UT Arlington Mavericks baseball team is a varsity intercollegiate athletic team of the University of Texas at Arlington in Arlington, Texas, United States. The team is a member of the Western Athletic Conference, which is part of the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division I. The team plays its home games at Clay Gould Ballpark in Arlington, Texas. The Mavericks are coached by Clay Van Hook.

Ty Lee Harrington is a former American baseball player and coach. He served as the head baseball coach at Texas State University from 2000 through the 2019 season. Under Harrington, the Texas State Bobcats to three NCAA tournament appearances, two Southland Conference baseball tournament championships, and three Southland Conference baseball regular season championships. Harrington is the most victorious coach in program history.

The Texas State Bobcats softball team represents Texas State University in NCAA Division I college softball. The team participates in the Sun Belt Conference. The Bobcats are currently led by twenty-second-year head coach Ricci Woodard. The team plays its home games at Bobcat Softball Stadium located on the university's campus.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Allan Saxe Field</span> Sports stadium in Arlington, Texas

Allan Saxe Field is the home of the UTA Mavericks softball team located in Arlington, Texas. As a result of a complete reconstruction in 2014–15, the stadium currently has a capacity of 622. Prior to the renovation, the softball facility had a seating capacity of 250. Adjacent to Clay Gould Ballpark, the stadium is located at the intersection of W. Park Row Drive and Fielder Road.

The 2014 Texas State Bobcats baseball team represents Texas State University in the 2014 intercollegiate baseball season. Texas State competes in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in its inaugural season as a member of the Sun Belt Conference. The Bobcats play home games at Bobcat Ballpark on the university's campus in San Marcos, Texas. Fifteenth year head coach Ty Harrington leads the Bobcats.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">UT Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros</span>

The UT Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros is a collegiate athletic program that represents the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV). The Vaqueros inherited the NCAA Division I status of the Texas–Pan American Broncs and competed in the Western Athletic Conference. In March 2024, it was reported that the Vaqueros would leave the WAC for the Southland Conference, beginning in the 2024-25 academic year.

The 2019 NCAA Division I Baseball season, play of college baseball in the United States organized by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at the Division I level, began February 15, 2019. The season progressed through the regular season, many conference tournaments and championship series, and concluded with the 2019 NCAA Division I baseball tournament and 2019 College World Series. The College World Series, consisting of the eight remaining teams in the NCAA tournament and held annually in Omaha, Nebraska, at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha, ended on June 26, 2019. The Vanderbilt Commodores won the tournament, and were consequently named national champions.

Steven L. Trout is an American college baseball coach and former infielder. He is the head baseball coach of Texas State University. Trout played college baseball at Texarkana College from 2004 to 2005 before transferring to Texas Christian University where he played for coach Jim Schlossnagle in 2006 and 2007.
